Did a solo trip last April (2018) to visit Japan for the very first time and seeing the cherry blossoms was a big bucket list for me (as well as visiting and experiencing Japan).

I missed the blossoms in Tokyo so I took a side trip to Yamagata: From Tokyo Station, I took the shinkansen to Sendai then a train to Yamagata Station via the JR Senzan Line. Definitely the highlight of that trip.
Sorry for the shaky video, I'm definitely not an expert on shooting capturing video but I just wanted to share the natural beauty and nature of the park.
I have more archived videos that I will probably dump hopefully within the few days of my trip to Tokyo. Thanks for watching!

Kajo Park was built on the site of Kajo Castle which had been originally constructed in 1357. Selected as one of Japan`s Top 100 Castles, the surviving outer citadel has been recognized as a National Historic Site. Within its 35.9ha, you will see many cultural facilities including Yamagata Civic Hall, Yamagata Prefectural Museum, and the Yamagata Museum of Art. There is a splendid display of cherry blossoms in mid-April.

山形県山形市にある霞城(kajo)公園の桜です。霞城とは山形城の愛称です。現在は二の丸まで残っており、霞城公園として市民に親しまれています。

Beautiful cherry blossoms at Kajo Park in Yamagata Japan.
日本の美しい桜の名所、山形県山形市の霞城公園は戦国武将・伊達政宗の伯父にあたる最上義光が増築した平城である山形城跡を一般に開放した城址公園です。霞城公園は桜の名所としても有名で、公園内に咲く桜の木の本数は約1500本もあり、そのうちの1200本がソメイヨシノとなっています。霞城公園沿いには、山形駅から発着する山形新幹線が通過する線路も通っていて、お花見シーズンになると花見客だけではなく、鉄道ファンも訪れる撮り鉄スポットとしても人気があります。
霞城公園の桜が咲き始める4月中旬頃になると、夜間に幻想的な夜桜も楽しめる霞城桜ライトアップも行われます。

Beautiful cherry blossoms in Japan.Kajo Park in Yamagata Prefecture Tohoku Japan is a castle ruined park that opened the site of Yamagata Castle to the general public.
Kajo Park is also famous as a cherry blossoms viewing place, the number of cherry trees blooming in the park is about 1,500, of which 1,200 are Somei yoshino cherry Blossoms.Along the Kajo Park, there is also a track through which the Yamagata Shinkansen passes, so not only the Blossom viewers but also the railway enthusiasts visit when it comes to the cherry-blossom season.
