Kakadu National Park Scenic Flight (Dry Season), Northern Territory, Australia
This video is about the scenic flight that I took at Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory in dry season a few years ago. Unfortunately the video quality is not that good as I was taking photos and let my friend take the video. He left the camcorder on the dash board and fell in sleep...yeah, in a scenic flight!

FLIGHT FROM JABIRU OVER KAKADU NATIONAL PARK NT
CARAVAN TRIP 2007
There are six main landforms in Kakadu National Park: the Arnhem Land plateau and escarpment complex, known as the stone country; the outliers; the lowlands; the southern hills and basins; the floodplains; and the tidal flats.
Mamukala Wetlands It is believed that 140 million years ago much of Kakadu was under a shallow sea. The prominent escarpment wall formed sea cliffs and the Arnhem Land plateau formed a flat land above the sea. Today the escarpment, which rises to 330 metres above the plains, extends over 500 kilometres along the eastern side of the Park and into Arnhem Land. It varies from vertical cliffs in the Jim Jim Falls area to stepped cliffs and isolated outliers in the north.
Along the escarpment, creeks have etched deep incisions to form gorges in which tall monsoon forests have developed. Water seeping from rock walls and the deep alluvial soils provide an important micro-environment for plants and animals.
The outliers are essentially pieces of the Arnhem Land plateau that have become separated from the plateau complex by erosion. They were islands in the ancient seas that once covered much of Kakadu. The gently undulating lowland plains stretch over much of the Top End. Travelling anywhere in Kakadu, you cannot help noticing the lowlands—they make up nearly 70% of the Park. The soils are shallow and often overlie extensive sheets of laterite (ironstone) and a thick profile of strongly leached rocks.
During the dry season the water recedes into rivers, creeks and isolated waterholes or billabongs. Kakadu’s wetlands are listed under the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (the Ramsar Convention) for their outstanding ecological, botanical, zoological and hydrological features.
The southern hills and basins cover a large area in the south of the Park, including the headwaters of the South Alligator River. Rocks here have been exposed from beneath the retreating Arnhem escarpment; they are of volcanic origin and are extremely old (2500 million years). This landform is characterised by rugged strike ridges separated by alluvial flats.

Yellow Water Cruise - Kakadu Nationalpark, NT, Australia
The Yellow Water Billabong lies at the confluence of Jim Jim Creek and the South Alligator River. It forms an inland delta region. It is Kakadu Nationalparks most famous wetland. The river system, which is the largest in Kakadu, contains extensive wetlands that include river channels, floodplains and backwater swamps.
Migratory and native birds gather here to breed, with at least 60 species found in the wetlands. Big estuarine crocodiles (locally called Salties) flock into the swamps. The plants and floating flora characterize this amazing place.
Cruises are held throughout the day, with the most impressive one the sunset tour, which you see here.
Look out for crocodiles floating just under the water line and enjoy this extraordinary scenery.
Most scenes are in double or even quadruple speed.

Kakadu National Park City Video Guide | Expedia
Kakadu National Park is 150 miles east of Darwin, in a region Australian’s fondly call, “The Top End.” World Heritage Listed, Kakadu, is almost half the size of Switzerland and is a geological, biological, and cultural wonderland.
The park is open year-round, but most visitors come from May to October, when most of the park’s roads are open. You’ll need to set aside a few days to fully explore Kakadu, and once there, the best way to experience the park is by off-road vehicle and on foot. The park has around 25 marked trails, from short walks to multi day hikes.
Two of the most popular walks include Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls. Here, at the end of forested gorges, are the sorts of places many dream about, but few will ever see. Another great place to cool off is Gunlom Falls, which offers crystal-clear swimming holes and views all the way to far-off Arnhem Land.
Kakadu is dotted with thousands of art sites, with some ancient galleries featuring paintings dating back over 20,000 years. The galleries at Nourlangie Rock and Ubirr are two of the most visited and feature incredibly well-preserved paintings depicting traditional legends and day-to-day life.
Take a cruise through the Yellow Water Billabong, and spot Jabiru, Magpie Geese and salt and fresh water crocodiles. Then finish your visit on a high by taking a chartered flight over the park for views you’ll remember forever.

Pluses:
This resort is well located for exploring Kakadu, after which the pool was most welcome. Breakfasts were included in our stay and were great! Evening meals in the restaurant were lovely also.
The staff is more than nice and helped me when I got sick. They were more than friendly. Good hotel if you want to visit the Kakadu Park.
Minuses:
The Crocodile seems a little dated and tired these days, but in the middle of Kakadu accommodation options are few.. We had to drag our cases up steep flights of stairs... not a pleasant experience.
The hotel is old. But good staff made it up. It needs a renovation.
