WA.NT Trip Part 5 | Kakadu National Park | NT
Kakadu National Park, one of the biggest Wildlife parks in the Northern Territory... Only because they don't have many! ????
In this episode we visit Jim Jim Falls, Gunlom Falls, Barramundi Gorge (Maguk), Gunlom Falls and Motor Car Falls. All of them are very different and special in their own little way.
Hiking to the top of Jim Jim Falls is a highlight, with the spectacular views of the valley below.
Sadly there was virtually no 4wding in this video and everything was very accessible to almost any high clearance vehicle. But the spectacular gorges and waterfalls made up for it!
Fun Fact: A scene of the Australian movie Crocodile Dundee was filmed at the bottom of Gunlom Falls!

Jim Jim Falls • Kakadu National Park • Northern Territory
17-18 June 2016
The drive to Jim Jim Falls is long and bumpy, but well worth the trek! Once you've driven for around 45-60 minutes down the dirt road, the hike to the falls is a further 30-45 minutes over rocky terrain. The water in the gorge was AMAZING, freezing and breathtaking. Apparently there are freshwater crocs in there, but we didn't see any. I highly recommend the swim across to the waterfall and then climbing up and standing on the ledge. This is nature at it's finest.
Kakadu National Park // Gunlom Falls // Katherine Gorge // Edith Falls
In this fortnights' episode we continue on our journey through Kakadu National Park with the first destination being Gunlom Falls.
What an epic place and the journey to the top plunge pool is well worth the hike.
We then venture down to Nitmiluk National Park to explore Edith Falls and hike Katherine Gorge, both of which exceeded expectations.

Kakadu National Park City Video Guide | Expedia
Kakadu National Park is 150 miles east of Darwin, in a region Australian’s fondly call, “The Top End.” World Heritage Listed, Kakadu, is almost half the size of Switzerland and is a geological, biological, and cultural wonderland.
The park is open year-round, but most visitors come from May to October, when most of the park’s roads are open. You’ll need to set aside a few days to fully explore Kakadu, and once there, the best way to experience the park is by off-road vehicle and on foot. The park has around 25 marked trails, from short walks to multi day hikes.
Two of the most popular walks include Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls. Here, at the end of forested gorges, are the sorts of places many dream about, but few will ever see. Another great place to cool off is Gunlom Falls, which offers crystal-clear swimming holes and views all the way to far-off Arnhem Land.
Kakadu is dotted with thousands of art sites, with some ancient galleries featuring paintings dating back over 20,000 years. The galleries at Nourlangie Rock and Ubirr are two of the most visited and feature incredibly well-preserved paintings depicting traditional legends and day-to-day life.
Take a cruise through the Yellow Water Billabong, and spot Jabiru, Magpie Geese and salt and fresh water crocodiles. Then finish your visit on a high by taking a chartered flight over the park for views you’ll remember forever.
Kakadu National Park, Australia

My Bucket List idea Gunlom Falls infinity pool, Waterfall Kakadu National Park Australia Plunge Pool
Gunlom Falls is located on Waterfall Creek, in the Kakadu National Park, and it has been a Bucket List idea of mine for a long time. I have now been there, and had a swim in the infinity pool it’s just amazing, magical even. It has well and truly lived up to my expectations of it, and I am sure I will be going back again
To get to the rock pool at the top of the waterfall, you follow a steep walking trail, which takes you from the bottom of the waterfall, up to the plunge pool and the amazing views at the top.
I was at Gunlom Falls the third week in May, and that is when this video was filmed.

Pluses:
This resort is well located for exploring Kakadu, after which the pool was most welcome. Breakfasts were included in our stay and were great! Evening meals in the restaurant were lovely also.
The staff is more than nice and helped me when I got sick. They were more than friendly. Good hotel if you want to visit the Kakadu Park.
Minuses:
The Crocodile seems a little dated and tired these days, but in the middle of Kakadu accommodation options are few.. We had to drag our cases up steep flights of stairs... not a pleasant experience.
The hotel is old. But good staff made it up. It needs a renovation.

EAST ALLIGATOR RIVER ABORIGINAL CULTURAL TOUR KAKADU NATIONAL PARK NT AUSTRALIA
CARAVAN TRIP 2007
The East Alligator River is approximately 160 kilometres long. After rising in the northern part of the Arnhem Land Plateau, it flows with tributary streams towards the northwest through magnificent canyons towards the Van Diemen Gulf which it meets at Point Farewell.
The South Alligator River is also about 160 kilometres long. It rises north of Mount Stow also on the Arnhem Land plateau. It flows northwesterly in a valley containing a number of disused uranium mines developed between 1955 and 1965. It also finishes in the Van Diemen Gulf of the Timor Sea.
The West Alligator River rises in the lowlands and is 80 kilometres long. The Wildman River also flows in the region. The river system has a number of spectacular waterfalls including the Jim Jim Falls on Jim Jim Creek and the Twin Falls on Twin Falls Creek.
The rivers have created the alluvial plains including the mangrove swamp in the past 20,000 years.
[edit] Climate
Waterfall - Kakadu National Park after rainLike much of northern Australia, the Alligator Rivers region has a monsoon climate. The dry season lasts between May and September while the wet season lasts between November and March. April and October are transitional periods between the two months. Annual rainfall at Jabiru is approximately 1540 mm with almost all of it falling during the wet season. During the wet season, the prevailing winds are westerly to north-westerly while they are easterly to south-easterly during the dry season.
The three Alligator Rivers are perennial rivers flowing even during the dry season as is the Wildman River. All of the tributaries dry up in places during that period. The land dries out, and the wildlife concentrates around the permanent water sources such as the rivers, springs, waterholes and billabongs. The duration of the dry period depends on the rainfall during the wet season. In a normal year, the tributaries will start flowing around the middle of December and finish at the end of June, but the flow will start in November and finish in August if the rainfall has been particularly heavy.
During the wet season, the savanna turns green, the wildlife spreads out, the bird life returns and the streams flood into adjacent lands turning them into swamps. The flood plains leave behind silt when they gradually dry up during the wet season.
