In this upload I bring you the visions I captured during my Kakkayam journey. Kakkayam is a wild and beautiful tourist destination in Kozhikode district, Kerala, India. The place is a perfect destination for rock climbing and trekking. The dam itself is beautiful as well as the view point. The associated areas of Kakkayam and Peruvannamuzhi dams are also known as Malabar wild life sanctuary. The Kerala hydel (Hydroelectric) tourism centre Kakkayam provides many services such as taxi, boating etc… for the visitors.

Peruvannamuzhi dam is a dam built on the Kuttiyadi river at Peruvannamooozhi in Chakittattara Grama Panchayat, near Kuttiyadi in Kozhikode district, Kerala.It's 55 km away from Kozhikode town. It was constructed as part of the Kuttyadi irrigation project

Kakkayam dam located in Kozhikode of Kerala state. The distance is about 15 km from Kakkayam Bus stop. 'Orakkuzhi' is a waterfall located just after the Dam.
Near the dam location, different animals including elephants can be seen.
Kakkayam in the Western Ghats, a UNESCO world heritage site, and Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Entry Fee is - 40/Per Head
Boating - 900 for 8 Persons

Getting There : Nearest Railway Station is Calicut Railway Station, Nearest Airport is Karippur International Airport.

A MONSOON TRIP TO KAKKAYAM DAM | URAKKUZHI WATERFALLS | KARIYATHUMPARA I KOZHIKODE

Kakkayam is a dam site located at Koorachundu in Kozhikode, Kerala. Kakkayam is on the outskirts of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO world heritage site, and Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary, a 7,421-hectare (18,340-acre) abode of wild animals including elephants and bisons.

Kakkayam dam/Urakkuzhi Waterfalls is an all season destination but the best time is after the monsoons from June to September or before the summer from March to May.

Kariyathumpara (കരിയാത്തുംപാറ ) - Hidden gems in Kozhikode

Kariyathumpara (കരിയാത്തുംപാറ ) is a one of the beautiful place that you must visit in Calicut/Kozhikode. Almost like a hill station. Located in Kozhikode District of Kerala, and is about 45 kilometres away from the Kozhikode city. There is no entry fee, open for public at anytime (as far as in July 2018)

Direction-wise, coming from Kozhikode, Kariyathumpara is enroute the Kakkayam dam. Kakkayam dam is 15 kilometers further up from Kariyathumpara. Unfortunately many of the people just pass this site without knowing about it on their way to Kakkayam dam.

Very smooth road to drive and as you reach there, you will be surprised to know that there is such a nice hilly area existing near you.

Ample space to park your vehicle/s. There are few resorts and restaurants near by. Also a paid toilet and changing room.

The scenic view is so beautiful, particularly in the mornings and evenings when the sun is not so hot. Water was comparatively less but very clean. The scenery all around is absolutely breath taking and need to be seen – difficult to describe. If you have a little passion in photography/videography, this place is for you. Kariyathumpara has now become a new destination for shooting wedding albums.

Please note:

1. Some areas in the river are about 12 feet deep (can go over 12feet during monsoon). Please be careful if you are not a good swimmer. There was few death cases told to us by nearest restaurant owner. Some stones are also bit slippery.

2. You will have to pass over the water to get to the other side of the river. Passing can be bit tricky (There are chances to get slip).
