Home of the Dalai Lama, Dharamsala
The seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile is in McLeod Ganj (upper Dharamsala), a picturesque town overlooking the Kangra valley in the Indian Himalayas. At one end of the ridge in McLeod Ganj is the locus of the Tibetan community, the Tsuglagkhang complex, their Potala Palace-in-exile, though this is a rather modest affair by comparison. It contains the Dalai Lama's residence, a monastery, temples, and stupas. For visitors there's also a café, bookshop, and the Tibet museum.

Namgyal Monastery (Tibetan: རྣམ་རྒྱལ།, Wylie: rnam rgyal) (also often referred to as Dalai Lama's Temple) is currently located in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamsala, India. It is the personal monastery of the 14th Dalai Lama. Another name for this temple-complex is Namgyal Tantric College.
This monastery's key role is to assist with rituals involving the Dalai Lama of Tibet. Its main tantric practices reportedly include those of Kalachakra, Yamantaka, Chakrasamvara, Guhyasamaja, and Vajrakilaya.
McLeod Ganj (also spelt McLeodGanj or McLeodganj) is a suburb of Dharamshala in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is known as Little Lhasa or Dhasa (a short form of Dharamshala used mainly by Tibetans) because of its large population of Tibetans. The Tibetan government-in-exile is headquartered in McLeod Ganj.

Losar festival begins in Dharamshala | Himachal Pradesh
Tibetans chant and spin prayer wheels, and also offer prayers on the occasion of Losar Festival. Monks are chanting, beat drums and offer prayers.
Tibetan reading their holy scripture and offer prayers to welcome their New Year Losar.
The most important holiday in Tibet is Losar, which celebrates the Tibetan New Year.
It's celebrated in February, but the exassct date varies each year according to the lunar calendar.
Losar is a three day festival. On the first day celebrations are usually restricted to the family, with the second and third days being the time to visit and exchange gifts with friends and more distant relatives.
This is also a time for Tibetans to visit monasteries and make offerings.
Losar is marked with activities that symbolise purification, and welcoming in the new.
Buildings are whitewashed and thoroughly cleaned, people wear new clothes and special food is prepared.
Buddhist monks adorn the monasteries with the finest decorations, and conduct religious ceremonies.
Rituals are performed to drive away evil spirits, and people celebrate with feasts and dancing.
The festival of Losar can be traced back to the pre-Buddhist period in Tibet.
In the times when Tibetans practiced the Bon religion, every winter a festival was held where people offered large quantities of incense to please local spirits and deities.
This festival eventually became the annual Buddhist festival we know today.

Buddhist Temple in Mcleodganj
Inside pics
Buddhist monks rush to the Key Monastery for Kalachakra, in Himachal
A kid being thrown from one person to another between the crowd at Kalachakra temple. The Army person pulls the kid up recklessly. The place is so much crowded that there is no place to walk.
Kalachakra is a combination of two Sanskrit words Kāla (meaning: time) and Chakra (meaning: wheel).
The Kalachakra temple is located inside the Thekchen Chöling temple complex in Mcleodganj in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh in India. The temple complex also houses the Namgyal monastery, the private chambers of his Holiness the Dalai Lama and the famous Tsuglakhang temple. Opened in the year 1992, the Kalachakra temple is a symbol of the concept in Buddhist religion known popularly as ‘The wheel of time’.
In the Buddhist tradition, there are important rituals associated with Kalachakra. At the temple, monks perform Kalachakra empowerment procedures that they believe would enhance the spirituality of the environment and further the cause of peace and harmony among human beings. Apart from being the site for Buddhist rites and rituals, the Kalachakra temple is also a regular venue for public meetings and discourses conducted by his holiness the Dalai Lama.
The Kalachakra consists of four aspects namely wisdom, body, mind and speech. The image of the Buddha at the centre represents wisdom while the deities surrounding him represent body, mind and speech. It is reported that the Dalai Lama himself personally monitored the progress of the mural painting right from the start to finish.
The adjacent walls features the portraits of the 14th Dalai Lama and thirty two Shamblala kings of whom the first seven are called Maharajas (Great kings) and the rest are known as Kalkis. Images of Tibetan deities such as Guru Padma Sambhava, Milarepa, Palden Lhamo, Yamantaka, Atisha and Tsongkhapa can also be seen in this temple
It was a Difficult Time taking care of the Monks and People in the Monastery for the Gathering. Some of the men were Beaten to control the crowd. Hindi and Tibetan were the languages used in the Video.

I think I was expecting more madness because I have been in India for about three months now, and I think just expecting this amount of people in this space that's usually, only has like a very small population, I was expecting that it would be very crazy, but I think they did a very good job with like keeping everyone in order and like making, I don't know, this experience very like relaxed and peaceful. But I didn't expect this heat, like, it's unbearable.

Huge influx of people to this normally small town, yet it's, I think the civility and organisation with which it's run has been really fantastic, so I have had an excellent time.
16. SOUNDBITE: (English) Bernard Lavy, French visitor:
I think like the food is a little difficult because there are so many people and there's no restaurants in this city. I think there's like one or two regularly, so it's all makeshift like street food and it's really greasy and you know, when you are a foreigner, you have to be really careful about what you eat. So I think they could have tried to accommodate maybe a little better the food situation, but with everything else I think they did a really good job.

STORYLINE
The Indian town of Amaravathi, on the banks of the Krishna River in Andhra Pradesh state, took on a distinctly Tibetan flavour as Buddhist faithful flooded the town for the 2006 Kalachakra.
The Kalachakra, meaning the wheel of time, is a system of teachings and practice of the Tibetan Buddhist faith and is attended by the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
Buddhists perform visualisation and purification exercises, and construct an elaborate mandala - a circular design representing the universe.
The 12-day festival has brought an influx of thousands of foreigners and Tibetans into the normally small, sleepy town.
It's believed that decades ago Lord Buddha gave the first Kalachakra on the banks of Krishna river in Amravathi town.
Despite hosting almost double its normal population, most visitors said Amaravathi was coping well with the proceedings.
Though the town is crowded, there was no chaos.
Owing to the shortage of accommodation, the organisers set up tent camps for the visiting pilgrims.
But the heat in Amaravathi has been taxing for pilgrims who've come from colder countries.
Because of the heat, the Dalai Lama moved the prayers from the afternoons to the mornings.
Food is another area where visitors are facing difficulties.
Most of the food available is from street vendors, and as one visiting Buddhist from France said: When you're a foreigner, you have to be really careful about what you eat.

Tse Chok Ling Monastery in McLeodganj (Dharamshala)
This peaceful Gompa was built in 1987 to replace the original Dip Tse Chokling Gompa in Tibet, which was destroyed in the Cultural Revolution. The prayer hall enshrines a magnificent statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. There are small prayer wheels at the side of the monastery ad a huge prayer wheel at the back side.
The monastery is located few hundred steps down the main square of McLeodganj. There is no motorable road to this place. Monks who stay there have to walk through these broken steps every day in order to go out. The monastery also has provisions for food and accommodation facilities for outsiders at a minimal charge. The monks are very kind and sweet speaking. They allowed us to take photographs inside the prayer hall.
India Vlog: Bodh Gaya | Kalachakra
About 14 days of Kalachakra at Bodh Gaya was very much worth the time. We received teachings from His Holiness The Dalai Lama from about 8:00 am to 3:00 pm almost everyday. I shot the videos during my spare time, which was mostly spent going out with friends and family.

Dalai Lama - Reading in McLeod Ganj at his Palace in India
See more of my stock footage here:
Dalai Lama reading in McLeod Ganj at his Palace in India.
After six decades as political leader of the Tibetian people the Dalai Lama prepared on March 14th to present his resignation from all formal authority. The understanding is that he will cede his role as the community's political leader while retaining his place at the apogee of Tibetan Buddhism.
Every year on March 10th the Dalai Lama gives a speech commemorating Tibet's national day of uprising. He did so last week per usual, from Dharamsala, his abode in northern India, on the 52nd anniversary of Tibet's failed attempt to resist China's takeover. His speech, lauded Tibetan resilience and urged China to end repression in Tibet.
