Grasslands threatened by tourism boom
While the China’s booming tourism industry is helping to boost economies, they can also pose a threat to the local fragile eco-systems. Earlier this month, a popular grassland scenic spot near Beijing began to charge a transit fee to keep the number of visitors down. However, the new policy was suddenly halted by the local government on Friday due to a public outcry from the public. This 20-day policy is just another example of difficulties areas as such face in developing sustainable tourism.
