Foundation stone of APJ Kalam's memorial laid in Rameswaram
The foundation stone of the National Memorial of late former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was laid at Peikarumbu, his burial site in Rameswaram Island today. A statue of the former president was also unveiled by Venkaiah Naidu and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. To mark the first death anniversary of former President, the Ministry of Defence has planned to host a number of events. An exhibition named “Mission of Life” depicting the life of Kalam and his achievements towards nation building will also be inaugurated.

APJ Abdul Kalam's Mortal Remains Reaches Rameshwaram
Mortal remains of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam were today flown to his hometown Rameswaram from Madurai. The funeral of the former President will be held in Rameswaram, his birth place in Tamil Nadu, on July 30 with full military honors.

Cattle, litter at APJ Abdul Kalam's burial site, no memorial yet
It has been over five months since the death of former President APJ Abdul Kalam, but the promised memorial at his hometown Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, is yet to be built. Dr Kalam's grave in Rameswaram - a mere 5 km from his home -- stands amid a dirty field, where herds of cattle have made their home.

Before Inauguration, A Bhagwad Gita Surfaced At President Kalam's Statue
A sacred book stand with words Bhagwad Gita engraved which mysteriously appeared by the statue of former president APJ Abdul Kalam at his memorial in Rameswaram before its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week -- has triggered a controversy. Tamil Nadu's opposition MDMK has alleged that it is a sinister move by the BJP government.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurates Kalam memorial in Rameshwaram
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated Dr APJ Abdul Kalam memorial in Rameshwaram on the second death anniversary of the former President who passed away on July 27, 2015.
The ceremony kick started with PM Modi hoisting the national flag at the memorial and later flag off an exhibition bus ‘Kalam Sandesh Vahini’ that is slated to travel across states and reach Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 15, marking the birth anniversary of APJ Abdul Kalam.
The memorial is built by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Pei Karumbu.
Kalam died of cardiac arrest in Shillong in 2015 and was laid to rest at Pei Karumbu in Rameswaram.
