திருக்கோயிலின் சிறப்பம்சங்கள்:

Yoga Narasingha Perumal Temple * Madurai ~
This temple is situated at the base of the Aanamalai (also called as Yaanaimalai),near Othakadai,on the way to Madurai to Chennai - National high ways. Madurai's coordinated bus stand,as called Maatuthaavani bus stand, is very near to this, say within 5 k.m of distance.
My advice to anybody, who wants to come to this place,is that, first you should reach the coordinated bus stand of Madurai,Maatuthaavani bus stand. From here your access to this place is very easy. From Maatutaavani,a lot of private mini buses are plying often to this place at the rate of Rs.5/- only. From here, you can arrange auto or call taxis at the rate of not more than Rs.75/-.
On the way to this temple, you can view an Archaeology of India sign board - notifies the existence of the Jains's sculptures of the ancient past.
Who is Hiranyakasibu?
In the ancient past,a fierce sage called Durvaasar, who is well known for his short temper, went to the residing place of Lord vishnu,to worship the god. There he was stopped by the Thuwarabalagas (body guards) called Jayan and Vijayan. This annoyed the sage and cursed the both Jayan and Vijayan,to be born in the earth as the demons. These two cursed persons approached Lord Vishnu and asked for the remedy to vanish the curse.Lord Vishnu offered two options before them, one was, that they would be given 3 births to reach Him back, for they would have been the enemies of Lord Vishnu, the alternate one was, that they would be given 30 births to reach Him back,as they would have been the devotees of Lord vishnu. They selected the first option, even though they would have been the enemies of their Master, for they would reach Him back early.
Those two cursed persons had taken birth as the demons called Hiranyaaksha and Hiranyakashibu in the earth. They acquired the super naturals powers by their fierce penance.
Here, the demon Hiranyaaksha defeated all the world, through his power and taken the earth as a ball, and made it hide under the ocean. In order to bring back the earth,Lord Vishnu had incarnated as Varaha Avatar, means,in the form of a wild boar, and destroyed the demon, and brought back the earth.
The Demise of the demon Hiranyakashibu
After his brother demise,he went for the fierce penance to obtain the Immortality.but he was refused,in alternate,he got the super natural power of not killed by human or the animal - not killed in day or night - not killed at out or In.With this power,he captured the three world under his control and ruined the celestials and humans to pray him as their god, there after.
But,his son Prahalaatha',who was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, only prayed Vishnu,as his god. This annoyed the demon, and asked his soldiers to kill his son,in order to influence him,to accept Hiranyakashibu as the god.He made many attempts, but all in vain, due to the eminent devotion of his son with Lord Vishnu. This eminent devotion had been built within him even from the birth itself of Prahalaatha, since the sage Naaratha told the glories of Lord Vishnu to his mother, when he was in the womb.
At last, with the anger reach at the peak,Hiranyakahibu asked his son that where was his god Vishnu. At once,Prahalaatha answered that he would reside even in the pillar or in the piece of stick (in colloquial Tamil,as quote Thoonilum iruppaan,Thurumbilum iruppaan).Hiranyakashibu's anger reached the apex, and pointed out a pillar, whether Lord Vishnu would reside in it. Yes,indeed,Prahalaatha answered without any hesitation.
Hiranyakashibu,at once, with the help of his Kathaayutha (a unique weapon of the celestials),made that pillar into pieces. From that pillar,Lord Narashimaa came out and took the demon to the door step ( since it was neither 'in' nor 'out'),at the time of dusk (since it was neither 'day' nor 'night'),in form of Lion headed human,as Narashimma (since he was neither man nor animal),pierced his belly with his tearing nails, and garlanded his intestine,as like flowers.
Actually it's a rock-cut temple
This temple had been constructed during the period of 770 A.D,when the pandya king Paraanthaga Nedumcheliyan was ruling over. His minister Maarankari had constructed this cave temple. He was also called as Mathurakavi. This place was formerly known as Gajagiri Kshethram in the ancient past, notified in Brahmanda Puranam.
The Sage Romasar, had done a fierce penance at the bank of the Lottus filled tank,as called Padma Thadagamnear this temple and wanted the Lord Vishnu to be appeared as one of his 10 incarnations.that is Lord Narasinghar'.

Koodal Alagar Perumal Temple * Madurai
First of all,we must know the reason, why the residing god has been called as Koodal Alagar Perumal. It's because, simply, the another name of Madurai is called Koodal Maa Naagr.Due to his state of residing in the koodal nagar,he is called as Koodal Alagar.
In Hinduism,it's mainly divided into two big division called Saivam and vainavam. The people in the saivam class worship Lord Shiva where as people in Vainavam, class worship Lord Vishnu as their Deities.
It is one of the 108 Divya Desams which had been sung by the Aalvaars, who are the disciples of Lord Vishnu. The temple is well situated in the heart of the town, near the Madurai's central-bus stand (named as Periyaar bus stand). One can easily reach the temple,by seeing the tower- view of the temple, when getting down from the buses arrived to the central bus stand. It's just on the walkable distance, don't need to arrange any auto or taxis.
Near the temple,a lot of hotels of economic classes are seen.If you are from outside of Madurai, and planning to spend two or three days at Madurai, please make prior arrangements for staying in order to avoid inevitable disturbances.
The special features
It's the Place(Isthalam) on which, Periyaalvaar, one of the 12 disciples ( called as Naayanmaarkal) of Lord Vishnu, sang Thirupaalandu in praise of the residing God.Again,it's the place which the Lord Vishnu has been exhibited as three postures - namely - 1)Veetriruntha kolam,2)Kidantha kolam,3)Ninriruntha thirukolam, that means the Lord Vishnu appeared in three postures as in sitting - sleeping - standing .
Here the main Deity is called as Koodal Alagarin the sitting position (Veetriruntha thirukolam)facing towards east direction.
Now my turn come into the scene...
one month back, i accompanied with my family went to the temple,on an evening of Sunday, Normally,it is accustomed to go to temple or any other entertainment places,on every Sunday. That Sunday i selected Koodal Aagar Perumal Temple, since it's very old and beautiful temple. More over,i want to expose the beauty of the temple to the outsiders like you, carrying with my Nikon D3100. Normally, taking photographs are prohibited at certain areas of the temple, like main deity's shrine and other inner shrines.I paid rupees 50/- for taking the photographs of the temple
Madurai is well connected with all major cities of India by buses, train and flights. There are high class hotels are also here, for the foreigners who want to visit Madurai. They can book to the welcome group hotels at Madurai, for their best sight-seeing in Madurai.
Foreigners can arrange local Rickshaws, for the local city trips. It's better for them to arrange. cycle-rickshaws in order to see the local places slowly and pleasingly.
Before entering into the shrine i captured the standing postures of the body guards of the Lord Koodal Alagar Perumal,(Thwara balagas). This was also objected by the temple employee that not to take photo here, you can take photos at corridor and the roof-top of the temple.
For climbing to the roof-top,a small amount Rs.5/- is charged per head. After worshiping the God,we climbed to the roof-top of the temple, through some narrow foot steps, bringing us to there. It's very fine view of the towers, seeing from there. The day light slightly turned into dusk, and the temple towers were glowing by the focusing lights towards them.
Through the foot steps, you see,we climbed to worship the third posture of the Lord Soorya Naarayanan - here he is called so.Then stepped down to roof of the corridors,I captured some photographs of different views of the towers and the roof-top of the temple, you can view some of these here.
