Come along to one of the quirkiest night markets we've ever seen, in Kalapana, Hawaii, called Uncle Roberts. This nighttime farmers market has a distinctive hippie vibe and some amazing food vendors ! The live music is about as authentic as it comes, and their are positive vibes everywhere. If you're curious about life on the Big island of Hawaii, then this is a video you do not want to miss. Uncle Roberts Night Market is open every Wednesday from 5 to 10 PM . Kava Dave of Hilo's Bayfront Kava Bar has been promoting and supporting the Kingdom of Hawaii's Awa Bars for several years. There are now seven of them on Big Island including the newest edition in Honaka'a.

This video is of Pahoa's Rainbow Family Kawa Bar, the Lahiki Ola Kava Bar in downtown Pahoa right down the Boardwalk from Lequin's Mexican Restaurant across from Pahoa Village Museum.

This is a great place to rest and relax or get a dose of diverse culture from Puna's eccentric best.

Lahiki Ola Kava also serves up an incredible selection of Kambucha embued with some pono herbs and essences from nature.

The awa root comes from da Island... fresh Awa Root straight out of the ground along the Hamakua Coast followed by meticulous cleaning and preparing the ancient Hawaiian sacred ceremonial staple for grinding. Once the fresh, clean Awa root is ground up fine it is frozen to await squeezing at the Awa Bar. The Awa Bars serve up fresh Island Kava, the drink made from

The last three years Kava Dave and Kava Dog Rufio have gone around the island in search of establishments serving up ancient Awa Root from the Awa Plant. The root is harvested and washed, ground up and then strained into a ceremonial drink called Kava or 'Awa.

For thousands of years Polynesians and people throughout the South Pacific have enjoyed this drink that tastes like the aina, yet makes you feel euphoric.

The following are the eight Kava Bars you may visit to sample a bit of ancient culture. Kava is also emerging as a successful alternative to alcohol in modern times. I am amazed at how pleasant a vibe the various Awa Bars have compared to establishments centered around alcohol.

The Epihany of Uncle Robert Keli'iho'omalu was the Energy behind the founding of the Hawaii Star Visitor Sanctuary. His request for Assistance from the Star Friends and Relatives in the Heavens even seems to have been recently answered by the June 27, 2014 Lava Flow which is setting new boundaries of Hawaiian Territory.

Life in Kalapana in the Old Days - A visit with Uncle Robert

In the next episode of Kama'aina Backroads™, we delight in sharing our recent visit with the patriarch of Hawai'i Island's southeastern village of Kalapana (Kaimu, actually), Uncle Robert Keli'iho'omalu.
His family compound, set on a kipuka (a clear place or oasis within a lava bed where there may be vegetation), is a well-known spot out in these parts. Uncle talks story about life in days gone by, about doing chores as a kid that sound like sustainable living in today's terms, and about living through Pele's awesome activities that have literally covered hundreds of homes in this very region.
