Silk Route part 2 Aritar, Mankhim to Aritar lake,Rishikhola
Set amidst lush green forests, sweeping hills of paddy fields and placid lakes, Aritar, made famous by the Lampokhari lake is a beautiful hill station located on the Silk Route Sikkim.. Aritar offers multitude options to visitors like trekking, adventure sports and nature trails. The most interesting place in Aritar is of course the Lampokhari Lake. Aritar can be reached by rail, road and air. The nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB), while the nearest railway station is NJP. There are no direct transport services between NJP and Aritar. India Beacons arranges for such transport for their guests.
Mankhim
Towering over the village of Dalapchand is the scenically beautiful hilltop destination known as Mankhim. Located near to the popular tourist hot spot known as Aritar, this pristine land mass offers tourists with a vantage point to take in some of the most breathtaking sights and sounds of the region. The hilltop looms large over the Lampokhri Lake, giving sightseers a bedazzling view of its emerald green waters. Mankhim also provides onlookers with a spectacular view of Mt. Kanchenjungha. The panoramic spectacle of the mountains is interspersed with a monastery and a small temple aloft the hilltop, which make for a tranquil retreat from the ensuing din of city life in the plains far below. Go paddle boating across the placid waters of the Lampokhri lake, or watch exotic birds as you take a hike along the picturesque mountain trail. With so much and more to offer the family tourist, it is no surprise that Mankhim is an idyllic hilltop destination beckoning to be savored.
The Lampokhari Lake is without a doubt the greatest tourist attraction in the region. The novelty element of this lake is its shape, which resembles a human foot. Flanked by an equally lush green forest consisting of Pine and Fir trees, the lake is perfect for a laid back paddle boating sessions across its serene waters. Located at a stones throw away from the lake is a lodge and cafeteria where tourists can refresh themselves. Art lovers should make it a point to visit the Aritar Monastery, which is a custodian of some magnificent works of vintage art including exotically painted murals, ancient Buddhist artifacts and rare manuscripts from a bygone era. The temple of Mankhim is steeped in history as it belongs to the medieval Hindu cult known as Rai, which believed to have originated in the Maity village. Upon visiting the temple, tourists can get an unhindered view of Mt. Kanchenjungha. The resplendence of the mountains is also mirrored in the rippling waters of the Mulkarkha Lake, which can be reached by a trek from the region. Some of the other tourist attractions in the area include The Dak Bungalow, a colonial era establishment that was built in 1895, the historic ruins of the Damsang Fort and the ever popular Cross Hill near Pedong can also be covered in a day trip.
Although the region is infamous for unforgiving winters, Mankhim is open to tourists all year. Visiting this hilltop paradise in winter would give you the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the sunrise over the icy peaks of Mt. Kanchenjungha. Its cool climes and resplendent flora during the summer months provide tourists with an ideal refuge to escape the soaring mercury in the plains down below.

Nathang Village, Sikkim - Gnathang Village near India-China Border on Old Silk Route Sikkim
Nathang Village, Sikkim - Gnathang - A small Village near India-China Border on Old Silk Route, Sikkim - Ice / snow covered Gnathang Village aka Nathang Valley - Highest Point on Sikkim Old Silk Route near India-China Border - Nathang Valley, also known as Gnathang Valley is a high-altitude plateau in East Sikkim. Located at an altitude of 13,500 feet above sea level and flanked by mountains on all sides, this is a remote valley with a meandering stream crisscrossing it. Nathang is the highest location to stay in the Indian part of the Old Silk Route. It is one of the remotest Tibetan habitations in Himalayas. Nathang Valley usually remains covered with thick snow from January to April. The long four-month of sub-zero temperature makes the valley a cold desert and one of the most beautiful parts of Himalayas. Recently, few homestays with modern facilities have been built with aid from the Government by the local villagers to accommodate tourists. Nathang Valley is the most scenic destination in the whole of Old Silk Route and the sunrise points of Lungthung and Eagles Nest Bunker are only 5 kms from here. Places to see in Nathang Valley: There is a local Hindu temple, a small Buddhist monastery.
Nearby sightseeing spot from Gnathang (Nathang) is Eagle’s Nest Bunker from where you can get a 360 degree view of the whole range of Mt. Kanchenjungha, West Bhutan, plains of Bengal, China, Tibet and the beautiful River Bramhaputra meandering across in the horizon. Sunrise over Mt. Kanchenjungha from Eagle’s Nest Bunker is beyond human description. Another nearby sunrise point Lungthung village is just 20 mins away from Nathang Valley. Nathang Valley looks beautiful in every season, so you can visit the place from June to September when the valley is veiled behind wild flowers. From September to January, the valley gains back a golden hue after the snow thaws from the grassland. From January to April the valley remains under the cover of snow, so if you are looking forward to experience snowfall in winter, this is the ideal time for you. Nathang you can cover Padamchen, Genmochen, Thambi View Point, Kupup Lake, Tukla Valley, Baba Mandir and all other spots in the Silk Route circuit in day trips. Zuluk has high diversity of Himalayan fauna. Other beautiful lakes like Jorepokri, Green Lake, Changu Lake and Menmecho Lake are only 25 km away from Nathang Valley. For more sightseeing, you can move ahead to Nathula Pass situated at a height of 14,400 ft above sea level. You will be able to see the border gate of China and India here.
Changala View Point around 4 kms from Nathang to experience one of the most mesmerizing views of River Bramhaputra meeting River Teesta and the vast plains of China, Bengal and Bhutan. Nearby attractions of Nathang Valley: You can take local sightseeing tours to Zuluk (24 kms away). The panoramic view of winding roads across Zuluk (also spelt as Dzuluk) with 32 turns is an interesting sight. Lungthung – Dhupidara also has a great view of Mt. Kanchenjungha and so does Thambi View Point and Tukla Valley. From Nathang, you can also move ahead following the GN Road and reach Kupup Lake (also known as Elephant Lake or Bitan Cho) at 15,600 feet above sea level. Some of the most sacred and scenic lakes like Jorepokri, Green lake, Changu lake and Menmecho Lake all fall within 25 kms of Nathang and can be covered in local sightseeing tours. You can also take a trip to the Nathula Pass at 14,400 feet above sea level to witness the border gates of India and China. There is a cafe at 14,000 feet at Nathula Pass.

On this particular day we have started our journey from Aritar and our plan was to visit Aritar Lake which haven't visited last day but due to heavy rain we haven't visited the Aritar Lake. Due to heavy rain we have started our journey late also around 9:00 AM.
We was initially going slow because of heavy rain and slush created by the rain. At around 11:30 AM, we reached first check post where we entered our vehicle information and shown our permits.
After riding for 2 hrs we reached beautiful Nathang Valley where we taken some good pics. From their we continued our journey to Nathula Pass. And in between we have stopped at a cafeteria for lunch.
We were unfortunate that because of India and China Tension Nathula Pass was closed for tourist. So we escaped visit to Nathula and continued our journey towards Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir where we stopped for quit some time.
From their our next destination was Changu Lake where we stopped for 5-10 minutes because the day was going down. So we at last proceeded to Gangtok. We reached our hotel at 8:00 PM.
