The Kaliningrad Zoo was founded in 1896 as the Königsberger Tiergarten in the German town of Königsberg, which in 1945 became part of Russia and was renamed Kaliningrad. Thus, the zoo is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Russia, and one of the largest.

Располагается на территории бывшего Кёнигсбергского зоопарка, который был основан Германом Клаассом, немецким предпринимателем в 1896 году.
Калининграду отошел после капитуляции немецких войск в 1945 году.

Kaliningrad is the capital of the Russian province of the same name, sandwiched between Poland and Lithuania along the Baltic Coast. Dubbed Königsberg during centuries of Prussian rule, the city was largely reconstructed after WWII.
Traces of its German heritage can be seen in the surviving Brandenburg Gate and the Riverside Fishing Village, a dining and shopping destination with re-created medieval-style buildings.

Three cute baby seal pups born at Kaliningrad Zoo

Three baby grey seals were born at the Kaliningrad Zoo over the last few weeks, footage from Monday shows.
The seal pups can be seen sprawling out in the sun with their mothers.
Two of the babies are being fed by their mothers with milk, but one of the mothers refuses to feed her baby, so it is being fed with a a homogenized mixture with all components required for his growth, according to Kaliningrad Zoo Press Secretary Ksenia Lazareva.
The mothers and cubs are kept together in a pool which is temporarily closed for visitors as they develop and grow. The zoo plans to release them into their natural habitat of the Baltic Sea once they have grown up.
The first release of seals born in the Kaliningrad Zoo took place in August 2017, when two young seals, the female Lira and the male Gyr, were released into the Baltic Sea.
