Dragon Quest X [PC] (Commentary) #016, Tsusukuru: Ruura Stone; Eastern Tsusukuru Plains
This is video #016 in my Dragon Quest X for PC gameplay series. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here:
Davilas the Elf Minstrel is currently working on the Tsusukuru storyline. Previously, Davilas journeyed to western Tsusukuru Plains to the west of Tsusukuru village. There is a library past the town's western exit where scenes occurred. Upon his return to the village, he talked with the instructor, Izuyanoi.
The next plot point is to talk to Akashi, the girl in Davilas's dorm room (time 1:15). Davilas rests for free, and the little girl Fuura will appear in the morning. Asanagi will also put in an appearance.
As Davilas steps down into the courtyard, another scene will occur (time 3:57). Izuyanoi will call the pupils together for another convocation. Whatever happened, it looks like only Davilas, Asanagi, and Kyuusuke passed. Poor Fuura. Afterwards, we get a Ruura Stone! Yay! It was quite easy to get. Each Ruura Stone can be set to one location as a Zoom destination.
At the church, Davilas sets his new Ruura Stone to Tsusukuru village (time 8:06). It can be set to another location in the future, but when that happens, the previous location will be forgotten.
The next plot point is to visit the big elevated eastern house (time 9:11). Yonja will now admit Davilas to have an audience with Lady Himea. Looks like that nut, Kyuusuke, has arrived before us and is causing a stir. Is he hitting on one of Himea's attendants, Yuuchaarin? This place definitely evokes Japanese culture. One of the things I like about the Elf continent.
The next storyline destination is Kuon Forest (久遠の森) to the northeast. Before that, though, Davilas will gather some treasures out in eastern Tsusukuru Plains, earn experience, and upgrade his weapons. Out in the east, there are Hammerhoods and Winksters. Both are pretty easy. The Hammerhoods have terrible accuracy, but look out for their criticals. Winksters are very weak, but watch for their infrequent Frizz spells.
Also, he has Quest 134 from Kiche, a dwarf between the inn and the church, so he may as well take care of that, too. This quest involves a mirror key item that Kiche gave Davilas. Note that before this, Davilas must already have taken a screenshot of himself near Kiche, so take care to do that first.
He leaves the village by the south gate (time 16:28).
He has barely started killing enemies when he reaches Minstrel Level 7 (time 18:16). He learns Riremito, or Evac, which creates a portal to escape from dungeons.
There is a farming spot for branches at G-5's bushes (time 20:40).
Davilas must go to the eastern bridge at G-5 for the next part of Quest 134 from Kiche (time 22:15). Here, he has to use the mirror key item. That will cause a spirit to appear on the little islet to the northwest of the bridge! Remember, holding down the Jump button brings up the camera. Pressing the confirm button will snap a picture. In fact, a picture will go into Davilas's key item inventory.
This bridge also lets Davilas get to a farming spot at the base of a tree at F-5 (time 23:48). More branches can be found here.
In the big cul-de-sac at G-6, there is a farming spot for yarn in the grasses (time 27:49).
In a dead end at H-7, a treasure chest contains 120 gold (time 30:30). All right!
In the open at H-6, there is a farming spot for more branches (time 32:03).
A little later, Davilas reaches Minstrel Level 8 (time 34:47). He learns Hyado, or Crack.
In a little dead end at H-4, there is a farming spot for yarn (time 35:26).
By the bank at G-4, there is a farming spot for branches (time 36:58).
Below the cliff at G-3, there is a farming spot for branches (time 37:42).
In the shrubbery at F-3, there is a farming spot for Medicinal Herbs (time 38:48).
On the western edge of the plateau at F-3, there is a red chest containing three branches (time 39:25).
Near the base of a tree by the northern bank at E-3, there is a farming spot for branches (time 40:05).
In the north at E-2, there is a farming spot for yarn in the shrubbery (time 41:04).
At the base of a tree at D-2, there is a farming spot for branches (time 42:45).
At the base of a tree in the northwest cul-de-sac at C-2, there is a farming spot for branches (time 44:17).
Back at Tsusukuru village, Davilas visits the weapon shop (time 46:56). One type of branch found in the plains can be sold for a pretty profit. Davilas also gets the Level 7 staff, the Level 7 bronze dagger, and the Level 7 bronze shield.
I know I can hang on to my gear for leveling other vocations, but by the time I do, it will be pretty cheap, anyway. Also, inventory space is currently very limited.
Then, he visits Kiche to conclude Quest 134 (time 49:49). He rewards Davilas with a few goodies, including 108 experience and 9 fame points. Not bad! Looks like there may be rewards for repeating the quest, as well.
Description continued in the comments.
Dragon Quest X [PC] (No Commentary) #003, Eteene North Cave; Destruction and Devastation
This is video #003 in my Dragon Quest X for PC gameplay series. This video does not contain commentary. To view the commentary version, click here:
Previously, Aba-sama tasked Davilas, Talint, and Shini with retrieving some Tensu flower. After spending the previous episode upgrading his gear, Davilas is now ready to get the job done.
The destination is the cave located in the second zone to the north of the village (time 4:47). Watch out for the tension-happy Golem guarding the entrance. Where's my Faerie Flute?
After defeating the Golem, Davilas reaches Level 8 (time 5:38). He learns Hyado, or Crack.
As the party enters the cave, a scene takes place (time 6:18). Evidently, what Shini has to say causes Talint some concern.
After the scene, the party is free to explore the cave (time 8:04). Enemies here include Fire Spirits, Healslimes, Muddy Hands, and Gas Clouds. The most dangerous, though, are probably the Walking Corpses.
In short order, Davilas reaches Level 9 (time 11:07).
In the first large chamber of the cave, there is an interesting cave drawing portraying fiery death (time 12:17). Shini will have some explication, which might be useful if I knew Japanese.
And before long, Davilas reaches Level 10, the level cap (time 15:08).
In the west of the cave, a blue chest at B-5/C-5 contains Magic Water (time 17:05).
Along the main east-west corridor, there are cave drawings depicting each of the five races (time 17:30). In the eastern corridor, there are also a cave drawing about a dragon and one apparently about humans (time 20:20).
At F-1 in the northeast, the party finds the door to the inner sanctum (time 22:22). Talint has some words for the party before he opens up the door. Unfortunately, as they go inside, a green freak decides to destroy the flowers! We can't have that!
After the scene, the party must do battle with their first boss, Bedora (time 24:44). There is not much special about this creep, but he does have an AOE with his hoop.
Another scene occurs after Bedora is defeated (time 26:34). What a rotter! Fortunately, Talint will notice that the trip here was not in vain. Tensu flower obtained!
After that, we regain control in the cave's boss chamber (time 30:56). Out in the main cave, the monsters seem to have vanished (time 31:29). The party evacuates with Riremito.
In the grassland outside, all is eerily quiet (time 32:10). A cutscene occurs as the party heads south through the area (time 32:56).
So, the party heads south. As they enter the village, they find marauding monsters (time 35:34). They also meet the initial main villain of the game, Nelgel. Talint is wisked away, but Davilas is not so lucky. This Nelgel is not a nice person.
After Nelgel departs, we get a view of the devastation (time 39:55). Then, something strange happens with Davilas's corpse.
Next, Davilas's soul arrives in some heavenly shrine (time 40:56). He now has the option to choose the race of the person whose body he will inhabit during the online portion of the game. The options are Dwarf, Wedi, Elf, Pukuripo, and Ogre. We will choose the Elf race (time 42:42). After setting up the physical characteristics, Davilas can choose his starting vocation from these choices: Warrior, Priest, Mage, Martial Artist, Thief, or Minstrel (time 45:05).
Another scene plays out after the race and vocation choices have been made (time 45:39). After being shown a big shiny book, Davilas's soul is wisked off to his new body.
After the scene, we have the option to go to online mode to upload the character to the server (time 47:29). If we choose not to, we can go ahead and get started on the second sibling's extended offline quest.
Back in the launcher, I go ahead and go to online mode to get Davilas taken care of (time 47:58). The pop-up box that I dismissed gave the option to change configuration settings. We will get the option to change the character's name if desired.
Next, we will commence the extended offline campaign with Talint. I may also get started with the online stuff.
Special thanks to Cranberry of the Dragon's Den for the excellent offline walkthrough on GameFaqs:
