Birthplace of the Kamikaze 神風 (East Airfield, Philippines) and 9/11 Hijackers' Lair
Japanese Vice Admiral Ohnishi formed the first (Shimpu) special attack unit of kamikaze fighters at the Santos home military headquarters at Mabalacat, Pampanga, Philippines in October 1944. They went on to attack invading US ships at Leyte Gulf just days later. This home and monument (erected in 2004) stand only a few kilometers from Angeles City's red light area, interestingly also home to the Woodland Hotel, temporary residence of some of the 9/11 suicide attackers as they learned to fly at nearby East Airfield (formerly the US' Clark Air Base). Two of histories most infamous airplane suicide bombing squadrons, trained and residing 55 or so years, yet only mere kilometers apart.

At Mabalacat, Philippines, during the night of October 19 and early morning of October 20, 1944 at Santos House, Vice Admiral Takijiro Ohnishi formed the very special attack unit to carry out aerial suicide attacks with Zero fighters, each carrying a 250-kg bomb, Thus was born the very first Kamikaze unit that later joined by several thousands divine warriors that subsequently stuck death, fear and chaos to thousands of American sailors.

Today Lot and I were on a mission to find the Kamikaze West Airfield where the first Kamikaze flow out of to attack American war ships during WW2. It took us a while but, we did find it. It was tucked way back a dirt road on the back side of Clark. We also found the tunnels that were used by the Japanese when the Airfield was under attack.

【クラーク】フィリピン空軍の使用していた航空機が、各所に展示された公園。
敷地内には遊具やピクニックができる広場もあり、ひと休みできる木陰も各所にあってゆっくりできます。
飛行機好きじゃなくても訪れておきたい公園です。
The park was developed to give local and foreign visitors to Clark an opportunity to witness a variety of aircrafts and other aviation equipment used by the Philippine Air Force (600th Air Base Wing).
On display in an open field along CM Recto Avenue are a host of flying machines. A favorite spot for local and foreign visitors.

Everyone in our house has snotty noses...lol... It started with Hannah Grace in the beginning of the week and she has now passed it on to Lot and I. Also Lot and I went out today to find the Kamikaze memorial located in Mabalacat City. It was pretty cool but, everything was locked up so we couldn't go inside the building.

US Army Activity on Luzon Near Binalonan, Camiling, Tarlac, Clark Field Philippine Islands
US Army activity on Luzon, Philippine Islands during the drive on Manila. Shows the aftermath of a counterattack by Japanese tanks near Binalonan. Troops then continue south through Camiling and Tarlac and capture Clark Field. Shows a visit by General Douglas MacArthur to the Filipino cemetery at Camp O'Donnell, terminus of the Bataan Death March.
Tanks and Infantry of the 8th Army's 11th Corps push inland after landing northwest of Subic Bay in a flanking move on Manila.
Also shows paratroopers of the 11th Airborne Division landing on a mission to take Tagaytay Ridge. (I have previously uploaded a video of the 11th Airborne's landing near Aparri in northern Luzon which can be seen here: )
