YES!!! WE FOUND IT !!! : CLARK/ANGELES CITY, PHILIPPINES
Today Lot and I were on a mission to find the Kamikaze West Airfield where the first Kamikaze flow out of to attack American war ships during WW2. It took us a while but, we did find it. It was tucked way back a dirt road on the back side of Clark. We also found the tunnels that were used by the Japanese when the Airfield was under attack.

Birthplace of the Kamikaze 神風 (East Airfield, Philippines) and 9/11 Hijackers' Lair
Japanese Vice Admiral Ohnishi formed the first (Shimpu) special attack unit of kamikaze fighters at the Santos home military headquarters at Mabalacat, Pampanga, Philippines in October 1944. They went on to attack invading US ships at Leyte Gulf just days later. This home and monument (erected in 2004) stand only a few kilometers from Angeles City's red light area, interestingly also home to the Woodland Hotel, temporary residence of some of the 9/11 suicide attackers as they learned to fly at nearby East Airfield (formerly the US' Clark Air Base). Two of histories most infamous airplane suicide bombing squadrons, trained and residing 55 or so years, yet only mere kilometers apart.
Clark Air Base
For other air fields, see Clark Field
Clark Air Base is a former United States Air Force base on Luzon Island in the Philippines, located 3 miles west of Angeles, about 40 miles northwest of Metro Manila. Clark Air Base was an American military facility from 1903 to 1991. The base covered 14.3 square miles with a military reservation extending north that covered another 230 square miles.

DECEMBER 8: The First Wave
On December 7, 1941 at 7:55AM, a Japanese dive bomber, also known as kamikaze, appeared out of the clouds above Oahu, Hawaii. A swarm of 360 Japanese warplanes followed, descending on the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor in a ferocious assault. This surprise attack was a critical blow against the US Pacific fleet and drew the United States irrevocably into World War II.
Most of the Pacific fleet was no match to what came at them. Five of eight battleships, three destroyers, and seven other ships were sunk or severely damaged, and more than 200 aircrafts were destroyed. A total of 2,400 Americans were killed and 1,200 were wounded, many while attempting to repulse the attack.
Japan’s losses were some 30 planes, five midget submarines, and fewer than a hundred men.
Although the attacks and bombings did not end there.
The next day, December 8 1941, Japanese aircraft attacked Davao. In the same morning, Baguio, Tuguegarao, and Tarlac were all attacked at the same time. To finish it all off, the Japanese army had bombed airfields in Zambales, Clark Field Pampanga, and Fort McKinley on the outskirts of Manila.
The following days would be marked by the first volley of attacks by Japanese troops.

RadianPro Flyover Kamikaze Field GoProHD
I took my RadianPro out to Kamikaze RC Airfield for some aerial footage with the GoPro HerocamHD. Beautiful sunny day with light winds. Not too many people around at first but by mid-afternoon the place was packed. As busy as it gets in summer, almost. We had a nice fire going in the barrel to help dispel the chill. You might catch a glimpse of the smoke rising as I fly past.
The view from the RadianPro shows the gravel pits adjacent to the flying field. You really don't get a sense of how big they are from the ground. Kind of like the clearcuts around here. Hidden from ground view and the majority of the population but to the eyes in the sky, all is revealed. A much more scenic view of the snow capped coastal mountains of British Columbia can be seen to the North of the field. Beautiful!
Hope you enjoy!

SUMMARY
=======
The United States Navy grew rapidly during World War II from 1941–45, and played a central role in the war against Japan. It also assisted the British Royal Navy in the naval war against Germany and Italy. The largest amphibious invasion of all time was the invasion of France in June 1944. The combatant warships were 79 percent British or Canadian, 17 percent American, and the remainder were from other allies.The U.S. Navy grew slowly in the years prior to World War II, due in part to international limitations on naval operations in the 1920s. Battleship production restarted in 1937, commencing with the USS North Carolina (BB-55). The navy was able to add to its fleets during the early years of the war while the US was still neutral, increasing production of vessels both large and small, deploying a navy of nearly 350 major combatant ships by December 1941 and having an equal number under construction.The Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) sought naval superiority in the Pacific by sinking the main American battle fleet at Pearl Harbor, which was tactically centered around its battleships. The December 1941 surprise attack on Pearl Harbor did knock out the battle fleet, but it did not affect the three U.S. aircraft carriers, which were not present at Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack. These became the mainstay of the rebuilt fleet.
Naval doctrine had to be changed quickly. The United States Navy (like the IJN) had followed Alfred Thayer Mahan's emphasis on concentrated groups of battleships as the main offensive naval weapons. The loss of the battleships at Pearl Harbor forced Admiral Ernest J. King, the head of the Navy, to place a primary emphasis on the small number of aircraft carriers.The U.S. Navy grew tremendously as the United States was faced with a two-front war on the seas. It achieved notable acclaim in the Pacific Theater, where it was instrumental to the Allies' successful island hopping campaign. The U.S. Navy fought six great battles with the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN): the Attack on Pearl Harbor, Battle of the Coral Sea, the Battle of Midway, the Battle of the Philippine Sea, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, and the Battle of Okinawa.By war's end in 1945, the United States Navy had added nearly 1,200 major combatant ships, including twenty-seven aircraft carriers, eight fast battleships, and ten prewar old battleships totaling over 70% of the world's total numbers and total tonnage of naval vessels of 1,000 tons or greater.

SUMMARY
=======
Australia entered World War II on 3 September 1939, following the government's acceptance of the United Kingdom's declaration of war on Nazi Germany. Following attacks on Allied countries, the Australian government later declared war on other members of the Axis powers, including the Kingdom of Italy (11 June 1940) and the Empire of Japan (8 December 1941). By the end of the war, almost a million Australians had served in the armed forces, whose military units fought primarily in the European theatre, North African campaign, and the South West Pacific theatre. In addition, Australia came under direct attack for the first time in its post-colonial history. Its casualties from enemy action during the war were 27,073 killed and 23,477 wounded.Australian Army units were gradually withdrawn from the Mediterranean and Europe following the outbreak of war with Japan. However, Royal Australian Air Force and Royal Australian Navy units and personnel continued to take part in the war against Germany and Italy. From 1942 until early 1944, Australian forces played a key role in the Pacific War, making up the majority of Allied strength throughout much of the fighting in the South West Pacific theatre. While the military was largely relegated to subsidiary fronts from mid-1944, it continued offensive operations against the Japanese until the war ended.
World War II contributed to major changes in the nation's economy, military and foreign policy. The war accelerated the process of industrialisation, led to the development of a larger peacetime military and began the process with which Australia shifted the focus of its foreign policy from Britain to the United States. The final effects of the war also contributed to the development of a more diverse and cosmopolitan Australian society.

SUMMARY
=======
Operation Downfall was the proposed Allied plan for the invasion of Japan near the end of World War II. The planned operation was cancelled when Japan surrendered following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Soviet declaration of war, and the Soviet invasion of Manchuria. The operation had two parts: Operation Olympic and Operation Coronet. Set to begin in November 1945, Operation Olympic was intended to capture the southern third of the southernmost main Japanese island, Kyūshū, with the recently captured island of Okinawa to be used as a staging area. Later, in the spring of 1946, Operation Coronet was the planned invasion of the Kantō Plain, near Tokyo, on the Japanese island of Honshu. Airbases on Kyūshū captured in Operation Olympic would allow land-based air support for Operation Coronet. If Downfall had taken place, it would have been the largest amphibious operation in history.Japan's geography made this invasion plan quite obvious to the Japanese as well; they were able to accurately predict the Allied invasion plans and thus adjust their defensive plan, Operation Ketsugō, accordingly. The Japanese planned an all-out defense of Kyūshū, with little left in reserve for any subsequent defense operations. Casualty predictions varied widely, but were extremely high. Depending on the degree to which Japanese civilians would have resisted the invasion, estimates ran up into the millions for Allied casualties.

San Diego (; Spanish for Saint Didacus; Spanish: [san ˈdjeɣo]) is a city in the U.S. state of California. It is in San Diego County, on the coast of the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, approximately 120 miles (190 km) south of Los Angeles and immediately adjacent to the border with Mexico.
With an estimated population of 1,419,516 as of July 1, 2017, San Diego is the eighth-largest city in the United States and second-largest in California. It is part of the San Diego–Tijuana conurbation, the second-largest transborder agglomeration between the U.S. and a bordering country after Detroit–Windsor, with a population of 4,922,723 people. The city is known for its mild year-round climate, natural deep-water harbor, extensive beaches, long association with the United States Navy, and recent emergence as a healthcare and biotechnology development center.
San Diego has been called the birthplace of California. Historically home to the Kumeyaay people, it was the first site visited by Europeans on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Upon landing in San Diego Bay in 1542, Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo claimed the area for Spain, forming the basis for the settlement of Alta California 200 years later. The Presidio and Mission San Diego de Alcalá, founded in 1769, formed the first European settlement in what is now California. In 1821, San Diego became part of the newly independent Mexico, which reformed as the First Mexican Republic two years later. California became part of the United States in 1848 following the Mexican–American War and was admitted to the union as a state in 1850.
The city is the seat of San Diego County and is the economic center of the region as well as the San Diego–Tijuana metropolitan area. San Diego's main economic engines are military and defense-related activities, tourism, international trade, and manufacturing. The presence of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), with the affiliated UCSD Medical Center, has helped make the area a center of research in biotechnology.
