Yakuza Zero's world is heavily inspired by real life locales. Here I showcase the similarities and real life areas that Kamurocho is based off.
If you haven't heard of this game, check it out! It's about the closest thing we have to a 'Japan simulator', albeit with a Yakuza focus. Lot's of great 'slice of life' mini games however, and it would be extremely nostalgic for anyone with a history in Japan.

Game Description:
One year after the 10 billion yen incident, Kazuma Kiryu begins to build a peaceful life with Haruka Sawamura. Tearing him away, an assassination threatens to erupt in an all-out war between the Tojo Clan and the Omi Alliance. Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima, must travel to Sotenbori, Osaka in an attempt to broker peace between the rival clans, but Ryuji Goda, known as the Dragon of Kansai, will stop at nothing to get his war. In this world, there can only be one dragon.
Rebuilt from the ground up, Yakuza Kiwami 2 uses the Dragon Engine to update one of the series stand-out titles into a modern classic. Play fan favorite minigames including updated versions of the Cabaret Club simulator and Clan Creator, or check out all new additions like an arcade port of Virtual On, golf bingo, and Toylets. Also new to Kiwami 2 is the 'Majima Saga' which features Goro Majima in his own playable adventure revealing events that occur prior to the game.

Yakuza 5 Attract Mode Video (2012-15, Sega)
Yakuza 5 (Japanese: 龍が如く5 夢、叶えし者 Hepburn: Ryū ga Gotoku 5: Yume Kanaeshi Mono, lit. Like a Dragon 5: Fulfiller of Dreams), is a 2012 open world action-adventure video game developed and published by Sega exclusively for the PlayStation 3. The game is the fifth main entry in the Yakuza series of action-adventure games. The game was released in December 2012 in Japan, and localized for North America, Europe and Australia as a PlayStation Network download exclusive in December 2015. The game features a brand new graphics engine, unlike previous PS3 games in the series that have been re-utilizing the same engine since Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan!. For the first time in the series, it features five settings across Japan along with five playable main characters. This game is also the first in the series to be released in the west digitally only, rather than on disk as well.
The game's gameplay is relatively similar to previous games in the series, with a few changes. Similar to past games, gameplay is divided into two components being Adventure Mode and Combat Mode. Adventure Mode allows players to explore different areas and play spots across the city including mini-games. The cities will also be significantly bigger than previous games, providing more areas to explore in the game and is said to feature the greatest volume of play spots across cities in the series' history. The change between the game's Adventure Mode and Combat Mode is also said to be more seamless than previous games, which involved a transitional change when encountering enemies whilst in adventure mode. Controls for the game have also been said to have been improved dramatically as with the tempo of the game's combat mode.
For the first time in the series, the game features five distinct locales across Japan. First of which will be returning from previous games is Kamurocho (a.k.a. Kamuro City), a fictionalized yet realistic recreation of Shinjuku's red-light district, Kabukichō. Second is Sōtenbori, a fictional Osaka district based on Dōtonbori, which is returning from Yakuza 2. The three new cities in the game are Nagasugai, part of the fictional Fukuoka based on Nakasu, Tsukimino, part of the fictional Sapporo based on Susukino and Kin'eicho, part of the fictional Nagoya based on Sakae. According to producer Toshihiro Nagoshi and writer Masayoshi Yokoyama, it will be like the San Andreas of the Yakuza series, in that it is a massive expansion on the core concept that takes the franchise to new heights.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Real-Life Locations Tour 2016 - Shogi 将天 将棋 | Kabukicho Tokyo

In this episode, Noah visits a Japanese seafood restaurant located on the East side of Kabukicho, Tokyo and talks about the evolution of the Shogi mini-game (将棋) in the Yakuza (龍が如く) series.
Shogi (将棋) is a two-player strategy board game similar to Chess. The difference between Shogi and Chess is that the captured pieces (pieces you’ve captured from an opponent) can be put back into play on your side of the board with limited to no restrictions on where they can be placed. In addition, there is a ‘Promotion’ system. When you get most of your pieces to the opponent’s side of the board, you can change the moves of the piece by way of ‘Promotion’. Shogi is a complicated game.
Shoten (将天) is a Shogi parlor located in Senryo Ave. (千両通り) east of Kamurocho. Shoten made its appearance in Yakuza 4 followed by Yakuza Dead Souls, Yakuza 5, Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami. Although the shogi mini-game made its debut in Yakuza 2, players could only play the game in Osaka, Soutenbori.
In the Western release of Yakuza 0, the localization team included an extensive guide and a numbering system to help players understand the rules and strategies of shogi.
In Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (龍が如く6 命の詩。), Shoten has been replaced with what appears to be a seafood restaurant representing the same restaurant in Kabukicho Tokyo. Although the reasons for replacing Shoten are unknown, my guess is the developers wanted to keep Kamurocho as up-to-date as possible.
