From Mrauk U you can make a three hour, scenic boat ride to the Chin tribes. The Chin tribes have still old women who have tattooed faces. Several times I had the feeling how far away, in the so called developed nations, have we gone from this natural, simple and happy way of living. These Burmese girls and women in the North, live in harmony with the earth and all the necessary resources. In their environment is bamboo to build a house, the river for easy transport, washing, water and fishing, and fertile land to cultivate on and so on.

The stunning Shwedagon Paya is the centrepiece of the city, a gleaming golden stupa visible from all over town. Closer to the waterfront, downtown Yangon is a warren of historic streets concealing some of the best British colonial-era architecture in the region. Forget the cosmetic renovations in Hanoi, this is the real deal, and a walk along the Strand or Pansodan St is like a stroll back in time. One surprise on arrival here is the complete lack of motorbikes, as they are banned from the streets of Yangon. Vibrant and dynamic, sweaty and steamy, reaching for the future but trapped in the past, Yangon is a fascinating introduction to Myanmar.
Shwedagon Pagoda, Yangon ½s not-tobe-missed attraction is the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda atop Singuttara Hill, considered by many as the greatest and most impressive Buddhist pagoda in Myanmar today. Originally 8.2 metres tall, now it stands close to 100 metres in all its glory through successive renovations by Myanmar monarchs. The Pagoda, more than 2500 years old, enshrines strands of Buddha�s hair and other holy relics. Colourfully dressed worshippers offering flowers, food, candles and water can be constantly seen circling the shrine daily. A sunset visit promises a spectacular sight, when the gold spire gleams and glitters in the light of the setting sun.

We also visit the amazing Shwedagon Pagoda, enjoy dinner while watching the Karaweik Palace Royal Culture Show, and see the Royal White Elephants in Hsin Hpyu Daw Park.
