International Buddhist Day celebrating the advent of Lord Buddha at the Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism
Every year on April 8, International Buddhist Day, the statue of newborn Buddha on the elephant with 6 tusks is worshipped throughout the world. Everyone puts his or her hands together in gratitude to the Buddha and wholeheartedly celebrates the advent of Lord Buddha, wishing for world peace and happiness for all mankind.
In Japan, Kanbutsu, the ritual of pouring water onto the statue of newborn Buddha, and Kanjo, the ritual of receiving the sacred water onto one’s head, are performed at the Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism, Nenbutsushu Muryojuji Head Temple, the sacred place for all Buddhists in the world. About these traditional rituals, one sutra says that one can gain incomparable merit by Kanbutsu and Kanjo. Visitors can attend the rituals. Please come to the Royal Grand Hall of Buddhism and join in the Buddhist events (free-of-charge).

By train: Get off at Sanda Station of JR Fukuchiyama Line. Shuttle bus will be in service from 9 o’clock at the north exit of Sanda Station. By car: Approximately 15 minute-drive from Hyogo Tojo IC on Chugoku Express Way. ※Parking space of Juhachi Rakan Restaurant can be used for free.
No smoking and no bringing food or drinks to the precincts. Please refrain from taking photos inside the halls.
Approximate time required in the temple is about 2 hours.
※ No admission fee is collected all the year round. Visitors are requested to book the date in advance. No reservation necessary on April 8.
