Fukuoka (& Dazaifu), Japan Memories

Going over the old video files I came across these clips. Not really knowing what to do with them, I decided to put them together and create a nostalgic movie.

Making our way to Fukuoka from Hiroshima, the fun is just going to continue. A list of items of what/where we went is below.

Just as an FYI - Fukuoka and the name Hakata are somewhat synonymous. Hakata is a ward in Fukuoka, but most people refer to Fukuoka as Hakata, so please don't get confused if I use the name interchangeably.

Lastly, because I didn't know where to put Dazaifu (we spent 1/2 a day there) I tacked it onto the end of this video. Those places that we went to are also listed below.

Shofuku-ji Temple, Fukuoka ● 聖福寺

► Shofuku-ji Temple is located in Gion-area of Hakata, Fukuoka.
(Only one stop by Kuko Subway Line from Hakata Station.)

It was founded in 1195, making it the oldest Zen Temple in Japan.
The center of the mainbulding houses 3 golden buddha statues, each approx. 3½
meters tall.

The place is well worth a visit if in Fukuoka; It's not overrun by tourists, and the templeground itself is most pleasent, with small ponds and trees, making it a small oasis in the middle of Fukuoka.

観世音寺（かんぜおんじ）は、福岡県太宰府市観世音寺五丁目にある天台宗の寺院。

九州を代表する古寺で、造営開始は7世紀後半にさかのぼる。
奈良の東大寺・栃木の下野薬師寺とともに「天下三戒壇」の1つに数えられる。

平安時代以降は徐々に衰退したが、仏像をはじめとする文化財を豊富に有する。
