Taiwan Sugar Museum (Kaohsiung, Taiwan)
The Ciaotou Sugar Refinery was the first factory for manufacturing sugar using modern machines instead of manual labor.
The sugar industry had played an important role in Taiwan’s local industry as early as the Dutch colonial period, and came to its peak after the Japanese occupation in 1895, when new types of sugar refinery emerged as the industry was extensively developed. At the time, there were 42 sugar refineries, 15 liquor distilleries, as well as 113,000 hectares of private farmland, achieving an unprecedented scale and becoming the top industry in Taiwan. After Retrocession, the Taiwanese government continued to develop the sugar industry by founding the Taiwan Sugar Corporation on May 1st 1946, in order to actively restore the status the industry. In the 1950s, sugar export accounted for 73.6% of foreign exchange earnings.

The Takao Railway Museum (Chinese: 打狗鐵道故事館; pinyin: Dǎgǒu Tiědào Gùshìguǎn) is a museum in Gushan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
The museum descends from the Kaohsiung Harbor Train Station, built during the Japanese period. The station was then the first railway station in Kaohsiung with the original name of Takow Station (Japanese: 打狗停車場). In 2003, the station building was classified as historical building by the Kaohsiung City Government. On 9 November 2008, the last train was pulled out from the station at 5.30 p.m.
Once the station was closed, the government took over the station building and land on the southern part of the station. On 24 October 2010, the government authorized the Railway Culture Society to enter the station for the opening of the Takao Railway Museum.

Kaohsiung train line to add 7 underground stations on Sunday
Kaohsiung''s underground railway project is in its final stages and will start service on Sunday. Ten years in the making, this NT$100 billion-dollar project adds seven below-ground stations to Kaohsiung''s rail network.
