KAPITI COAST / PAEKAKARIKI TRAM (2017)

Queen Elizabeth Park on the Kapiti Coast - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – BackpackerGuide.NZ
Day 71: Today we are checking out the walks in Queen Elizabeth Park along the Kapiti Coast of New Zealand! Join us for a free thing to do on the Kapiti Coast!
Yesterday - Day 70 -
Tomorrow – Day 72 –
About this video:
Today we are checking out an awesome free thing to do on the Kapiti Coast, walking in Queen Elizabeth Park. We head to Queen Elizabeth Park in Kapiti which is just off the main highway in New Zealand to walks through rolling sand dunes with regenerating vegetation on them.
Along the sand dunes in Queen Elizabeth Park in Kapiti is a long stretching beach with awesome views of Kapiti Island out to sea. We head down to the beach to capture some photos and get some awesome views around Queen Elizabeth Park on the Kapiti Coast.
After struggling our way back up onto the sand dunes in Queen Elizabeth Park, we continue on the loop back around to the start with our shoes full of sand but still feeling epic after our walk in Queen Elizabeth Park in Kapiti.
Our day ends with a barbeque back at Moana Lodge in Plimmerton where we are staying for a couple of days as we explore the Kapiti Coast and the Wellington suburbs.
So what do you think of Queen Elizabeth Park on the Kapiti Coast? Is Queen Elizabeth Park somewhere you would stop off on your way to Wellington?

Tram Museum, QE Park, McKays Crossing, Paekakariki, NZ
A video created by me, of photos taken by me, at the Tram Museum, in QE Park, McKays Crossing, Near Paekakariki, in NZ
Wellington Sunday 29th April 2012;
I've got this new camera so I thought I'd try doing some filming while on holiday in Wellington the capital of New Zealand. Please forgive the jumpyness of the filming but it was blowing a near gale at the time. (as you will hear) Even wrapping myself around one of the platform pole did not help. Next I'll take a tripod. I do not know where these units were heading to or from. It was just great watching them I could have done it allday.

Christchurch city rails + EM 80 & double DSC's (HD)
Here we catch up with the usual KiwiRail freight and passenger trains. In this video we include a couple of bonuses on the national rail network. The first is track evaluation car EM 80 and secondly is the regular DSC swap out between Waltham and Addington. This happens every week when the DSC shunter is swapped at the Addington wagon depot. First a DSC locomotive travels to Addington with a sister in tow from Waltham. The DSC at the head will ditch the dead DSC in Addington and pick up the current one at Addington. When the line is clear the double DSC's will return to Waltham, hope you enjoy this video!

Grandchildrens day out
Riding the old tram at Queen Elizabeth park Paekakariki, Kapiti coast New Zealand. Last ride on this type tram at this location was 45 years ago. Grumpy grandad at times here lol.
Tram No12 HD - Wanganui, New Zealand
The first passenger trips on Tram No 12 ('Mable') on Queen's Birthday - Monday 2nd June 2014. The 102 year old electric tram has been lovingly restored by local volunteers after being 'out of service' for the last 64 years. This was an opportunity to document an historical occasion, made special with the attendance of Mable Edmonds who is the same age as the tram.

Was lucky to video the last trip for the day. Brings back fond memories of the days when trams roamed the streets of Wellington. Thanks to the tram driver for his hospitality.

Cab View - Wellington to Masterton – GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition
In this video we visit Wellington, New Zealand, served by one of the most scenic commuter rail networks in the world. The system has been upgraded with new Electric trains, track upgrades and the overhead wires have been extended as far as Waikanae on the North Island Main Trunk Railway. During the peak periods the electric and diesel trains are busy transporting commuters to and from work, outside the peaks these regular modern trains are a great way for tourists to explore the Wairarapa, Johnsonville and Kapiti Coast lines. Maybe catch a train to Featherston to visit the Fell Locomotive Museum and learn about the legendary Rimutaka incline, or take an evening train along the scenic Kapiti coast to Paekakariki at sunset, the Johnsonville line, once part of the original North Island Main Trunk railway is a steeply graded, twisting line that climbs high into the Wellington suburbs offering great views over the city before plunging into a series of short tunnels to emerge onto a precarious ledge cut into the steep sided valley (try to imagine massive steam locomotives struggling with heavy trains over this tortuous route before it was bypassed by a tunnel in 1937).
We join the driver of our the diesel locomotive for a trip over the Wairarapa line to Masterton, skirting Wellington harbour on a beautiful sunny day, before making our way up the Hutt valley, climbing into the surrounding hills to enter the 5.5 mile (8.8 km) tunnel beneath the Rimutaka mountains, emerging to a splendid vista over Wairarapa lake, before descending to the plains far below, continuing through fertile farmland and attractive settlements to Masterton.
I used 3 different action cameras to make sure I captured this memorable return journey between Wellington and Masterton. Originally I intended to use the footage from which ever camera gave the best result, but as it turned out even though the cameras filmed the same trip, the perspective from each was quite different, leading me to decide on uploading two outward and two return trips.
