Setting off from Paraparaumu on the Kapiti Coast, this was a full day of exploring the northern end of the island, including a guided bird and nature walk and a delicious buffet lunch.

Kapiti Island Birdlife
We went on an overnight stay at Kapiti Island, New Zealand which is a fantastic experience. This video shows a lot the birdlife that we saw. It's not easy filming birds, let alone handheld but the little Panasonic F990 does a great job. Trekking at night looking for little spotted kiwi was a lot of fun but very difficult to film! So I didn't even try.

Summer of 2013, we were trolling for albacore tuna at Kapiti Island off the coast of the North Island in New Zealand. We were trying to get one spearfishing as well, but the rod and reel proved the most successful.

Kapiti Island
Kāpiti Island is a small but conspicuous island about 5 km (3 mi) off the west coast of the lower North Island of New Zealand. It is 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) long, running southwest/northeast, and roughly 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) wide, being more or less rectangular in shape, and has an area of 19.65 km2 (7.59 sq mi).
The island is separated from the mainland by the Rauoterangi channel. The highest point on the island is Tuteremoana, 521 m (1,709 ft). The seaward (west) side of the island is particularly rocky and has high cliffs, some hundreds of metres high, that drop straight into the sea.

In NZ we continue! We made our way up to an amazing lookout in Paekakariki off the Kapiti Coast to see Kapiti Island in all its glory! We then ventured down to the beach but the water was waaaaaay too cold to even consider going in, so instead we opted for some real fruit ice cream.

Kapiti Island At It's Best
the Island provided me with a whole heap of fish and we even ended up getting a nice size cray but i didnt have the gopro with me. ENJOY!!!!!!
