Ilya Muromets
Ilya Muromets had a real prototype. But what do we know about him Surprisingly, he was a monk and was even beatified as a saint. His relics are preserved in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. According to legends, Ilya was born with a serious illness, but was later cured and became a warrior. This was considered a fairy tale until the scientists examined his relics. It turned out that the real Ilya was a strong man who, as a child, suffered from a serious illness and could not walk for a while. The relics also have distinctive wounds, which confirm his military past. However, we reliably know only about his monastic life in his declining years. Most likely his homeland was the village of Karacharovo near Murom. Hence the nickname. Ilya Muromets is not the only hero who has a real prototype. The image of Dobrynia goes back to the famous mentor and right-hand to Prince Vladimir. Therefore, in the epics, Dobrynya Nikitich is a hero in the service of the prince. The Rostov boyar Alexander, who died in the battle with the Tatars on the Kalka River, is considered to be the prototype of Alyosha Popovich.
