East Japan Earthquake Catastrophe relief report by Kenjiro Goto
During the first month after the earthquake and tsunami, I toured Karakuwa peninsula over four trips for the purpose of delivering supplies and humanitarian support. My visits took me to the city of Sendai, Tagajo city, Ishinomaki city, Minami Sanriku-cho, and Kesennuma city. I found it difficult to communicate with mere words and characters. That is why I put together this movie clip. I would be grateful if this clip could motivate those who watch to continue the support effort.(translated by my sister's family that living in San Diego)

Volunteer Work in Tsunami Disastrous Japan
At 11 March, the world experienced one of the most scary earthquake in its history. More importantly, its side effect is much broader. Nuclear hazard is one of this. However, the dense population and their several businesses have been destroyed and led to the severe damage of Japan economy. Although these two problems might be solved in near future by some very lucky opportunity, another biggest problem might not been solved in a near future. That is - cleaning up the tsunami disastrous garbage.
Basically, nothing here is genuinely garbage. Rather, those were materials for daily life. For example, the furniture, clothes, books, household electronics, professional equipment, different kinds of memorable things (albums, collection of new year cards, etc., children-toys, gifts, and many), tatami, and whatever you can think of or you can see in your own house. The tsunami made all these things garbage in just few moments. Anyway, it is very important to clean up those things. Like many volunteer teams, Gakuvo is regularly participating to clean up these areas.
This video is made by a volunteer as a witness of all these things after four months of the worst tsunami in recent history. The main intention is to encourage people to participate in similar work. This video want to transfer the information to people that the volunteer work here is very important, little difficult-but not boring at all :), with little special dress-up it is safe indeed and it is about an interesting experience too.
The video is made in a very informal way with small portable camera. Since it was attached with one of the volunteers body while working, many of the scenes are shaky. There is almost no editing except cutting some redundant and unnecessary frames. The whole video tries to present the very live moments of the volunteer work on the spot only.
The place:
Karakuwa Peninsula, Kesennuma, Miyagi, Japan.
Involved Organization:
1) Gakuvo, Japan
2) Karakuwa group of volunteers
Six of the volunteers in this video is from Kanagawa International Dormitory for Students - Fuchinobe, Kanagawa, Japan
Note: Date and time shown in the video is wrong due to camera settings. Actual Date is 16-17 July 2011

A Story of the tsunami by Ryokan Tsubaki-so Inn Young Owner
Morifumi Murakami is the young owner of the Tsubaki-so inn. He takes users and guests of his inn for rides in a microbus and tells them various stories of the earthquake and tsunami in Oshima while visiting the actual sites.
On the day of the earthquake, Mr. Murakami was not in Oshima because he had taken his little daughter to a hospital in Kesennuma for her vaccination. Several days later, after returning to Oshima, he heard various stories from many Oshima islanders, such as their experiences of the tsunami and the local fire brigade's activities on the day of the disaster.
This is a record of the helpless scenes and the stories of people who are attempting to move forward after the disaster.

[東日本大震災]震災記録11/4/16(R45・宮城県気仙沼市本吉町平貝~幣掛周辺・迂回)【閲覧注意】Stricken area after the massive tsunami(from JPN)
