Karatsu City in Saga - How to get there from Fukuoka
Karatsu (唐津) is a coastal city in Saga Prefecture on Kyushu, about 50 kilometers west of Fukuoka. In the past, Karatsu was a major stop for ships making the journey towards Korea and China because it is one of the closest Japanese cities to the Korean Peninsula.
Today the city is known for its castle, the annual Karatsu Kunchi festival (November 2-4) and its local pottery. Several more attractions are found on the nearby rural Higashi Matsuura Peninsula, including beautiful coastal scenery and the ruins of a huge castle. Leave a comment, like and subscribe.

The manufacturing of porcelain began around the year 1600, and before long, kilns by the Saga Nabeshima clan were constructed so that they could create Nabeshima ware to be offered especially for the Shogun and his daimyo (feudal lords). About 30 pottery workshops are located within this village surrounded by the lush green mountainside which creates a unique atmosphere. Annually from mid-June to August, the Fuurin (Wind Chime) Festival is held, and throughout the village, you can view the scene of hanging Imari wind chimes which are beautiful to the eyes and ears.

Karatsu Kunshi Festival in Japan
Karatsu is a city at the north part of Saga Prefecture, and faces Karatsu Bay connecting to the Sea of Japan.
It is located about 45 km northwest of Saga city, and about 55 km west-southwest of Fukuoka city.
The central area is just around the mouth of Matsuura River.
This area was the first place where rice was cultivated in Japan about 2,500 years ago.
Of course, rice was brought from the Asian Continent.
And the history book written in China in the 3rd century introduces a small state which existed around this city at the time.
Of course, some Chinese travelers came here in the ancient times.
So this area had been the entrance of the primitive age in Japan.
In the early 17th century, Karatsu castle was built, and this city had developed as a castle town.
Since the early 19th century, Karatsu Kunchi, the big festival of this city, has been held.
To visit Karatsu, it is convenient to use JR Chikuhi Line from Fukuoka city rather than JR Saga Line from Saga city.
It connects to the subway of Fukuoka city, so we can come here directly from Tenjin, Hakata and Fukuoka Airport.
EXPLORING A JAPANESE ATLANTIS ISLAND CAVE｜Day 89 - Saga
The Nanatsugama Caves, designated as a natural monument of Japan, are spectacular caves formed from the infamous rough waves of the Genkai Sea pounding against the cliffs and eroding them away over many long years. As the Japanese name suggests, the Nanatsugama Caves consists of seven caves in a row formed by deep erosion into the cliff face, and this scenery is one which strikes onlookers by the marvels of nature. The largest of the caves has an opening of 3 meters and depth of 110 meters. The caves can be enjoyed leisurely on a cruise boat. There is a grassy plateau above the caves, with a lookout and walking trail, and it is often buzzing with numerous sightseers. The area around Nanatsugama is also popular as a fishing destination. Legend says that Empress Jingu discarded an earthen vessel here that was memorabilia for her troops winning the war with Korea, and there is a shrine here called Dokizaki Shrine which worships her.

Bus: Get on Showa Bus bound for Yobuko via Minato at Karatsu Oteguchi Bus Center, get off at Nanatsugama stop and walk for 20 minutes

THE BEST WAY TO SEE FUKUOKA, JAPAN (BIKE IT)
In April, 2018, I went to Tokyo and then to Fukuoka. Here's a quick series of shots from my GoPro Hero 6 while I was on the rental bike in Fukuoka.
Fukuoka is a city of about 5.1 million in southwest of Japan. It's amazing. I'll be following up with a vlog or two on my experiences. In the meantime, I wanted to post a little tour of my time cycling through the city over the course of about 24 hours. This was a bit of an experiment to see if I could put something together largely from GoPro footage.
For a 24 hour bike rental, I spent 1000 Yen -- around $12 CDN. Awesome deal, and well worth it! It's the best way to see the city, and enabled me to see way more than I would have on foot alone.

The Saga Prefectural Tourism Federation has produced a video, “Finding Hidden Gems in SAGA,Japan to promote the use of Saga Prefecture’s official tourism app “DOGANSHITATO?” to explore Saga’s beautiful scenery, delicious food and hot springs. Today, the Saga Prefectural Tourism Federation will release the video on its official channel, featuring Micaela's travel around Saga while using the tourism app’s substantial contents.
Saga Prefecture, which faces out onto two unique bodies of water, the Genkai Sea and the Ariake Sea, has plenty of amazing sightseeing spots such as its scenic coastline and Japan’s biggest tideland! The video begins from the Kyushu Saga International Airport, as Micaela meets the app's mascot Tsubozamurai, and pays a visit to the hot springs of Ureshino City, which rank in the top three hot springs in Japan for beautifying the skin. She then experiences pottery making in the famous ceramic town, Arita, while also taking a stroll through the town's Uchiyama area, designated as a conservation area for historically important buildings. Micaela also tries out Karatsu's live squid sashimi. As she continues her travels, she is drawn to the beautiful, gaze-stealing scenery.
Saga Prefecture’s official tourism app, “DOGANSHITATO?” lists helpful info for travelers in Saga, such as sightseeing spots, accommodations and restaurants, and is available in six languages: Japanese, English, Korean, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional) and Thai. The app is full of vital information for tourists visiting Saga, both from within Japan and overseas!
