Kareem forest park (Man made forest)
The only man-made forest in the Kerala Kareem Forest park is spread over 32 acres of land. The park is situated at Puliyamkulam, near Parappa which is 23 km away east of kanhangad town. Kareem, a native of Kasaragod, is behind this great green venture. The forest park is located in Parappa near Nileshwar and is a remarkable example for forest conservation. Similar to any other natural forest Kareem’s forest park is rich with a variety of plants and shrubs. It also gives shelter to innumerable species of birds, small wild animals and medicinal plants. The forest is frequented by people from different walks of life, environmentalists, scientists, university and Ayurveda students, and laymen for practical experience and study purpose. Mr. Kareem is also multiplying and distributing the seeds and saplings of forest trees and medicinal plants to convert the waste lands into thick forests which in turn will rejuvenate the earth

A man owned forest in kerala :Abdul Kareem കരീം ഒരു വരം...
Abdul Kareem, 66, of Parappa, Kasargod, Kerala had a liking to ‘Kavu’, the sacred forests of Kerala, right from his childhood. He would frequently visit his wife’s house in Puliyankulam village and it was during such visits that he noticed the barren hillside land nearby. In 1977, as if on an impulse, he bought five acres of the land for Rs 3750. The people nearby and even his family were not able to comprehend his action, and he became a laughing stock in the locality. The property had only a single well that remained almost dry throughout the year. Since it could not provide enough to water the saplings that he planted, he would carry water in cans from outside sources on his two-wheeler. This continued for three years, at the end of which, nature started responding to his unrelenting efforts and the trees actually started growing.
The change was now to be seen – birds came in flocks and helped Kareem by bringing seeds of umpteen varieties and started setting their nests in this new haven. Soon other forms of life also appeared. The ecosystem was developing at a good pace. In the meanwhile, Kareem bought another 27 acres of land and planted trees all over the place with the new-found vigour, motivated by the fruits of his efforts.

She along with her family planting, nurturing trees and plants for the last 4 decades. Here you can find rare plants like Kayamboo, Lakshi Tharu, Nagapoomaram, Ankolam and more. There is no doubt that a lush greenery ecosystem make your mind calm and peace. I felt it here, in this man made forest.

Bekal Fort in Kasaragod
Bekal Fort in Kasaragod
Around 16 km to the south of northernmost district in Kerala, Kasaragod, lies the massive Bekal Fort. It is among the biggest forts in Kerala and has been impeccably maintained throughout the years. It rises to 130 feet above sea level and is situated on a headland spanning 35km. Much effort has been put to develop a beautiful beach here called the Bekal Fort Beach. People flock to these spots in great numbers. Situated comfortably on steep hills by the sea, the fort provides for an imposing view from the beach. Built using laterite slabs and with a polygonal shape, it is amongst the most visited sites in Kerala.
There are many factors that have added to the popularity of the site. An observation tower fitted with beautiful peepholes, the Anjaneya Temple with its famous masonry and two Theyyam sculptures built from laterite are among the primary attractions. An ancient mosque built by Tipu Sultan and various underground passageways are also important places in the area. A rock garden was built using laterite in the parking area and is an architectural marvel in itself. Trees have been planted on the beach along with the construction of a splendid walkway which makes it easier to traverse the beach and enjoy its sights. At night, the entire place is lit up with special lights that add a whole new dimension to its beauty.

How Assam's forest man is helping save trees
An environmentalist in Assam has single handedly contributed to tackling deforestation over the last three decades by growing a sprawling forest on a 550 hectare riverine island, some 350 km away from the state capital Guwahati. The island now also provides sanctuary to hundreds of animals, including endangered ones like the Tiger.
