Its surface is 2934 metres above the sea level. Snow melting from the Dhauladhar range serves as the source of the lake and a stream, Nyund is the outflow. Since the source is fresh melting snow and the lake is shallow, water visibility is very high and in most places, the lake bed can be seen.

The Lake is at an elevation of about 3,300 meters that is located in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh India .This trek is an opportunity to explore one of the most spectacular areas of the Himalayan range.
The trek starts from kareri village that is connected to all major cities of northan india by bus or cab services
The kangra airport is the closed runway to kareri village.Cabs and buses are easily available.
which takes 1 hr to cover 30 km distance from airport
The trek is of 13 km and generally it takes 6-7 hrs to complete this trek.Best time to do the trek is between Apr to November.
The day temperature is between 10 to 20 C
and night temperature varies from -4 to 6 C
So, bring warm cloths for night stay

Started my Journey (solo) from Alwar, Rajasthan on 11/sept/2018 and reached Delhi by bus.
Boarded my train- Dhauladhar Express from Delhi-Sarai Rohilla Station to Pathankot. I met Rahul (Instagram- @awarabhavra) in the same train who was also going to this same trek and we went along. BTW, this was the first time we met.
We took another bus from Pathankot to Dharamshala and reached there by noon. From there we had two options to reach Kareri village- Either wait for the bus/sharing jeep or hire a taxi till Kareri village which would have cost us around 1.5k. We chose the first one. Waited for 2 hours and finally got seat in a sharing jeep. We reached the village by 8pm. It was raining heavily and we had no place to stay but thanks to our taxi driver, Sheetal Bhai ji, who took us to this cafe called Out of the World. The owner of the cafe, Mr. Sansar Pathaniya, who allowed us to stay in his cafe that night. He literally left his Cafe to us for that night and went back to his home. crazy, right?
Next morning we left for one of the most beautiful and longest trek of my life-Kareri lake trek.
We started at 10 am and reached by 4 pm. Yeah, took longer than we expected. Surprisingly, there was no other traveler at the lake. It was just us and the shopkeeper who also left the place in the night. So basically it was just us, alone on the top. It was like a dream come true. Always wanted to go some place like this.
Explored nearby places in the morning and reached back to Kareri Village by 4 pm. Stayed there for the night since we missed the last bus/jeep to Dharamshala. Left early morning for Dharamshala via sharing Taxi. Explored some places in Mcleodganj during the day and finally boarded our bus in the evening and reached Delhi by the next morning.
It was indeed one of the best trip of my life, made a lot of new friends which i usually don't do, pitched my own tent, traveled on the roof of the taxi(immediately got schooled by the local police, so don't try it), jumped into flowing river during mid-trek, tried local homemade liquor and much more..
Definitely going back to this trek again very soon.

SUBSCRIBE NOW - (Free). Kareri Lake trek is full of astonishing nature views, and when you get to see the frozen lake so you forget all pain of the trek. Kareri Lake is 2934 metres above the sea level and situated in North West of Dharamsala in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh.
We started our journey from Delhi to Kareri village and reached the village in the morning around 10 am.
we took 1.5 days to complete the trek around 26Kms, the trek is moderate level, but the snow tracking is little difficult without any proper equipment and a good trekking boots.
It was a solo trip but I booked this trip through Just Wravel so become group travel with unknown people, though travelling with unknown people is interesting and you get to learn so many things.

Kareri lake is best known for being a trekking destination in the Dhauladhars. The lake remains frozen from early December to March–April. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shakti on a hilltop overlooking the lake.. A few gaddi kothis are present on the other side of the lake, an area which is used by the gaddis as a grazing ground for their animals. Kareri Lake serves as a base for trekking further into the Dhauladhar and onward to Chamba and Bharmour via the Minkiani Pass (4250m) and Baleni Pass (3710m).

Kareri Lake Trek 2018
Kareri Lake trek is the most amazing journey I had with shepherds, A lot of Shepherds were coming directly from Bharmour and Chamba district. The route which I opted was just amazing with no one around Totally less explored only Sheeps and Shepherds were there, Kareri Lake trek from Salli village is what one should opt for if looking for unexplored trek.

Kareri Lake is a less explored place surrounded by dhauladhar ranges.
There are two ways to go to Kareri Lake
1) By Salli village
2) By kareri village
By salli village the trek is 17kms long and it is an unexplored route through this way you will not find any tents or shops. Moreover its really difficult, no proper route, not recommended without guides.
Kareri Lake trek from Kareri village is a 13 km trek, The route is moderate from this way.
We chose both the routes we came from Salli village and went back from another route that is Kareri village. But if you want to experience real thrill and adventure, Plan the way we chose.
Kareri Lake trek is dedicated to Shiva Shakti temple. Its really a peaceful place. If someone really wants to enjoy the beauty of Kareri Lake Trek doesn't make it a 2 day/weekend plan.
To reach Kareri Lake: You should arrive at Kangra for Salli village and Dharamshala for Kareri Village.
Kareri Lake Trek Brief Itinerary:
Day 1) Kangra - Salli Village - Chandrala
Day 2) Chandrala - Daled
Day 3) Daled - Kareri Lake ( Difficult)
Day 4) Kareri Lake - Kareri Village - Kangra

Trek to Kareri Lake in September 2018 (Himachal Pradesh India)
Kareri Lake is a high altitude, shallow, fresh water lake south of the Dhauladhar range approximately 9 km North West of Dharamsala in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh. Its surface is 9626 ft above the sea level. I went on this trek in second week of september 2018 with complete stranger and the experience was amazing.
Every clip in this video was shot during my trek to Kareri Lake! All the clips are shot and are edited by me.

धारकंडी घाटी शाहपुर कांगड़ा ।। बोह, लाहड़ी, लग्ग गांव
हिमाचल के कांगड़ा जिला के शाहपुर में है धारकंडी वैली। बेहद शांत और खूबसूरत घाटी है। इसी घाटी से होते हुए प्रसिद्ध करेरी झील ट्रेक के लिए भी रास्ता है। धारकंडी शाहपुर से करीब 20 किलोमीटर की दूरी पर है।
इस साल अपने दोस्त विवेक गुलेरिया जी के साथ मुझे भी यहां जाने का मौका मिला। जहां हमने बीस किलोमीटर का सफर गाड़ी में और उससे ऊपर तीन घण्टे का पैदल ट्रेक किया। इस घाटी के बीच में दरीणी, बोह घाटी, लाहड़ी व लग्ग जैसे बेहद खूबसूरत गांव है। इसी घाटी में ख़बरू झरना भी है जो भागसू से भी बड़ा है। करेरी डल झील ट्रेक के लिए यहीं से रास्ता जाता है।
