The name Karighatta translates to Elephant Hill in Kannada. The hill has a Hindu temple devoted to a form of Hindu god Vishnu, called Karigirivasa. This deity is also referred to as “Lord Srinivasa” and is also called “Bairagi Venkataramana”. The epithet ‘Bairagi’ for this idol is derived from the fact that when ‘alankara’ (flower decoration) is done to the deity, the deity looks like a Bairagi (mendicant).

It was a very good experience for me exploring the unknown.
This is my first lonely ride & I personally enjoyed it to the fullest.
This place is close to Mysore and srirangapatna . The roads are not that good but you can go to this place with family and friends.
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
Never travel alone to this place because it seems dangerous. Before going down in hulikere tunnel its better to ask local people if the channel water is released in KRS dam.
Because its very dangerous to go when the water is released.
Since i visited in late summer water was not there but I've seen the water level is filled until the top of the tunnel.
So its better to get information before visiting.

RIDE TO KARIGHATTA & THONNUR LAKE
karighatta is a hill situated a few kilometres outside the 'island' town of Srirangapatna. It is situated off the Bangalore-Mysore Highway just before Srirangapatna in Karnataka state of India.
Thonnur Kere is a serene, unspoiled beautiful lake. It's a man-made water barrage across Yadavanadi connecting two rocky hills and built from the times of Ramanuja. It was known as 'Tirumalasagara' at that time and now has many names like 'Kere Thodanur' after the second capital of Hoysala Empire and 'Moti Talab' meaning Lake of Pearls, probably bit of exaggeration for the clear water the Kere holds.
