Cuban President Fidel Castro has called on the youth of the country to continue to construct the most just and humane society in the world.
He was speaking on Thursday as he presided over the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the Union of Communist Youth of Cuba.
Castro told the audience that our nation continues to design and construct the most just and human society ever known.
During the event, Castro was joined on the stage by Elian Gonzalez and his little brother.
Elian's Miami relatives unsuccessfully fought in court to keep the boy in the US after he survived a boat crossing from Cuba to Florida in November 1999 in which his mother died.
After a lengthy diplomatic tug-of-war, the boy finally returned to Cuba with his father the following June.

Cuba legends Buena Vista Social Club play Havana
(15 May 2016) The surviving members of the fabled Buena Vista Social Club performed what could be their last concert together as a group in Cuban capital Havana on Saturday.
The band is ending their Adios (Goodbye) world tour where their remarkable career began 20 years ago.
It was a bittersweet moment for the five survivors of the groundbreaking group, which wowed audiences for decades, sold millions of records and topped charts around the world.
The Buena Vista Social Club once swept the Americas with their version of Cuban Salsa, Son, Meringue and Caribbean Jazz, influencing a generation of musicians throughout the continent.
For Omara Portuondo, Eliades Ochoa, Barbaro Barbarito Torres, Manuel (Guarijo) Mirabal and Jesus Aguaje Ramos, Saturday's concert was an homage to departed bandmates, and a chance to perform once again before an adoring crowd.
The packed audience at the Karl Marx Theatre, located in an upscale neighborhood of Havana, showed their appreciation and gratitude for the chance to see, maybe for the last time, performers who had musically shaped their formative years.

The American Ballet Theatre has returned to Cuba for the first time in fifty years.
They were in Havana to pay tribute to Cuba's most famous ballerina, 89-year-old Alicia Alonso, who danced with the American Ballet Theatre in the 1940s and 50s before returning to her homeland.
STORYLINE:
Ballet dancers glide across the stage to the applause of the audience.
But this is no ordinary performance, the dancers are members of the prestigious American Ballet Theatre (ABT) and the stage is Havana's Karl Marx Theatre.
The ABT is one of a host of renowned ballet troupes from around the world who have travelled to Cuba for the 22nd International Ballet Festival of Havana.
The trip is part of a series of cultural and artistic exchanges that have taken place since President Barack Obama took office in 2008.
Kevin McKenzie, artistic director of the U.S. ballet company, says the dancers are artists, not politicians _ but he hopes such cultural exchanges could help improve understanding across the Straits of Florida.
This year's guest of honour is the prima ballerina Alicia Alonso who celebrates her 90th birthday on Dec. 21.
Julie Kent the current principal Ballerina of American Ballet Theatre, pays tribute to the Cuban prima ballerina.
