Audrey Martin Napanangka (Featured Artist)
Hi. In this video, I'd like to tell you about one of our artist, Audrey Martin Napanangka. She was born in 1952, Yuendumu one of the settlements in Warlpiri Tribe, Northern Territory, Australia.
She grew up there and learned how to paint from her elders especially, Netta Williams Napanangka, the sister. She paints traditional paintings, especially in dot arts like this one. You see in this place, it's one of her paintings representing women's gathering bush tuckers. The title of painting is “Bush Tucker”.
It's showing basically some of the sites that women go to gather the food. These are meeting places representing women. Usually, the elder teaches. The younger ones had to gather food. These oval shapes represent “kulmas” or wooden balls that women gather food and leave it in it, the storage in it.
Sometimes, they use it for other means like even to put the baby to sleep and rack them. These are the size they go for gathering food and this is their main site, waterholes and the connecting river. And this symbol here is a “kulama” again means “gathering”.
Gathering can be about gathering sweet potatoes, Buchanan or many other foods. It can be seeds on the ground bolts.

Janet Long Nakamarra (Featured Artist)
Hi. In this video, I'd like to tell you about one of our famous aboriginal artist Janet Long Nakamarra. She was born in 1960 in Anninie, Warlpiri Tribe, Northern Territory. She paints traditional and some contemporary kind of paintings.
This one you're looking at is one of the traditional ones. It's about little sandy creek or sandy creek. She calls this The Art title. This is showing sacred size in sandy creek and some events that happening around sandy creek for example women meeting with the cool amounts of wooden ball and this rand of oval shape things.
Around the painting is showing stages of time passing by in the tribe. The background is showing the landscape of sandy creek and these are the boundaries, like geographical boundaries of sandy creek.
I'm going to tell you about another painting of this artist. Yes, this is the second painting from Janet I was going to tell you about, the title is Invisible Women. It's a tribute to unnoticed hard worker women’s of tribe. As you see, the V-man in the U-shape are covered with dots that means that they can't be seen as whistleblowers to others. Showing the three sacred sized in Badjiri Tribe, the passage of time and also the little sandy creek space.
