Germany Travel Guide - Karlsruhe Palace in Karlsruhe
Take a tour of Karlsruhe Palace in Karlsruhe, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The city of Karlsruhe, in the southwest of Germany, is home to one of the nation's greatest treasures.
Karlsruhe Palace would become this city's central focal point, as all construction branches out from this luxurious structure. Having been built partially of wood during its initial construction in 1715; it was later necessary to rebuild the structure entirely from stone.
The palace tower marks the city's center, from which radiates the entire city's foundation.
The building's main entrance is surrounded by beautiful gardens and well-manicured landscaping.
Karlsruhe Palace was most recently rebuilt after it sustained damage during World War Two; today it remains in excellent condition.
Germany - Schloss Karlsruhe and Schlosslichtspiele 2016
The Schlosslichtspiele are a series of light shows which will illuminate the entire southern facade of the Karlsruhe Palace with lavish projections accompanied by sound installations. The castle is located at the center of the fan shape that underlies the Karlsruhe city plan. With its expansive grounds and the surrounding park, it represents one of the most important architectural attractions in Karlsruhe. The Schlosslichtspiele now place it center stage in a special way. Over a duration of four months, various renowned artists and artist groups will present their light projections after dark.

Karlsruhe Palace was erected in 1715 by Margrave Charles III William of Baden-Durlach, after a dispute with the citizens of his previous capital, Durlach. The city of Karlsruhe has since grown around it. It is now home to the main museum of the Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe.
The first building was constructed by Jakob Friedrich von Batzendorf. The city was planned with the tower of the palace (Schloss) at the centre and 32 streets radiating out from it like spokes on a wheel, or ribs on a folding fan, so that a nickname for Karlsruhe in German is the fan city (Fächerstadt).
Originally partially made of wood, the palace had to be rebuilt in 1746, using stone. Charles Frederick, Margrave of Baden-Durlach at the time, and who eventually became Charles Frederick, Grand Duke of Baden then had the palace altered by Balthasar Neumann and Friedrich von Kesslau until 1770, adding larger windows and doors, pavilions and wings. In 1785, Wilhelm Jeremias Müller shortened the tower, adding a cupola.
During the Revolutions of 1848, Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden was expelled in 1849 for some time. In 1918, the last monarch Frederick II, Grand Duke of Baden had to move out. The former residence of the Rulers of Baden is since used as Badisches Landesmuseum Karlsruhe. Much of the city centre, including the palace, was reduced to rubble by Allied bombing during World War II but was quickly rebuilt after the war.

Walking in KARLSRUHE / Germany ????????- 4K 60fps (UHD)
Karlsruhe is the second largest city in the German state of Baden-Württemberg (after Stuttgart). This walk in Karlsruhe is on a public holiday so it's fairly quiet in the centre.
We walk along the Karlsstraße and head to the Karlsruhe palace which is one of the few touristic sights in this industrial city. There in the palace garden people enjoy their holiday. We return through the fan shaped layout of the park and head back towards the inner city.
We pass the Rondellplatz, Friedrichsplatz among others. A few restaurants and cafés are open as we end this short walk near St. Stephen's Square.

The Botanischer Garten Karlsruhe is a municipal botanical garden located in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. This garden should not be confused with the nearby Botanischer Garten der Universität Karlsruhe operated by the University of Karlsruhe.
The garden was established by Charles III William, Margrave of Baden-Durlach and designed by Karl Christian Gmelin. Between 1853 and 1857, three plant houses were created by architect Heinrich Hübsch.
The buildings were severely damaged or destroyed in World War II, but reconstructed as follows: camellia and flower house, rebuilt 1952 for cactus and succulent exhibition; palm house, rebuilt 1955 to 1956; tropical house, restored in the 1950s. The plant houses are open daily except Monday; an admission fee is charged. The grounds contain several rare trees from the 19th century amid newer plantings.

Places to see in ( Karlsruhe - Germany ) Turmberg
The Turmberg is a hill located in Durlach, a suburb of Karlsruhe in Germany. It is home to a castle ruin. The Turmberg can be reached by the Turmbergbahn, a funicular railway. The original railway used water to weight the rail cars, but now it is run on electric.
The Turmberg is a popular excursion destination and can be reached via various routes. The Turmbergbahn has been going up the mountain since 1888. It is the oldest funicular still running in Germany. Alternatively, the mountain can be reached via the Witches' Stave, a stairway that leads in 528 steps directly from Durlach to the Turmberg. From the top there is a beautiful view of the Rhine valley and the urban area of Durlach and Karlsruhe. Some beautiful hiking trails invite you to a tour. A large playground and the 2010 completed forest ropes course complete the offer.
The tower mountain has its name from an old tower building from the late Staufer period. During excavations, the foundations of a tower still 200 years older were found right next to it. These are the remains of the castrum Gretzingen, ie the castle of Grötzingen. The Pfinzgaugrafen from the Hohenberger family had their headquarters here in the 11th and 12th centuries and exercised rights of domination on behalf of the Salier kings. The residential tower was one of the earliest noble mountain castles in the German southwest, which testifies to the self-confidence of the owners. Between 1230 and 1250, the old residential tower was demolished and instead a slimmer keep built into the surrounding wall was built.
Today's 28 meter high tower is characterized by the Staufer time typical robust and defensively acting, on the edges clean misted humpback cuboid. The new gentlemen in the 13th century, the margraves of Baden, officiated at first occasionally on the castle, which was now called castrum Durlach. After this was conquered several times in the 1270s, they preferred more and more the city of Durlach, where they built a stronghold. When Margrave Charles II moved the residence there in 1556 and had the Karlsburg built, the old castle only had the function of a watchtower. With the help of a 13 m high pillar, a platform was added to set up an alarm cannon.

Places to see in ( Karlsruhe - Germany )
Karlsruhe is the second-largest city in the state of Baden-Württemberg, in southwest Germany, near the French-German border. The city of Karlsruhe is the seat of the two highest courts in Germany: the Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Court of Justice. Karlsruhe most remarkable building is Karlsruhe Palace, which was built in 1715. Karlsruhe city centre is the oldest part of town and lies south of the palace in the quadrant defined by nine of the radial streets. The central part of the palace runs east-west, with two wings, each at a 45° angle, directed southeast and southwest (i.e., parallel with the streets marking the boundaries of the quadrant defining the city center).
The market square lies on the street running south from the palace to Ettlingen. The market square has the town hall (Rathaus) to the west, the main Lutheran church (Evangelische Stadtkirche) to the east, and the tomb of Margrave Charles III William in a pyramid in the buildings, resulting in Karlsruhe being one of only three large cities in Germany where buildings are laid out in the neoclassical style. The area north of the palace is a park and forest. Originally the area to the east of the palace consisted of gardens and forests, some of which remain, but the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (founded in 1825), Wildparkstadion football stadium, and residential areas have been built there. The area west of the palace is now mostly residential.
The Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe (VBK) operates the city's urban public transport network, comprising seven tram routes and a network of bus routes. This network is well developed and all city areas can be reached round the clock by tram and a night bus system. The Turmbergbahn funicular railway, to the east of the city centre, is also operated by the VBK. The VBK is also a partner, with the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft and Deutsche Bahn, in the operation of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn, the rail system that serves a larger area around the city. This system makes it possible to reach other towns in the region, like Ettlingen, Wörth am Rhein, Pforzheim, Bad Wildbad, Bretten, Bruchsal, Heilbronn, Baden-Baden, and even Freudenstadt in the Black Forest right from the city centre. The Stadtbahn is well known in transport circles around the world for pioneering the concept of operating trams on train tracks, to achieve a more effective and attractive public transport system, to the extent that this is often known as the Karlsruhe model tram-train system.
