Karnala fort is one of the most beautiful hill forts of Maharashtra.
It is situated inside Karnala bird sanctuary.
It is very popular among trekkers due its scenic beauty and ruggedness.
Karnala is located on Mumbai Goa highway which is just 10 kms
from Panvel which is the nearest railway station.
Karnala can be visited throughout the year due to its lush green
forests.A large no. of bird species can be heard calling while
climbing the fort.
One must carry enough water and food for the trek.
The trek is easy and takes around 1.5 hrs to climb the fort.
The great view of Matheran,Mumbai Goa highway,Prabalgad and
the lush green forest is enchanting.

Karnala Fort | all you need to know before visiting

#Karnala Fort is located in Raigad district about 10 km from Panvel city. To reach Karnala, one has to go through the dense forest of Karnala Bird sanctuary. This is a perfect destination for beginner trekkers. One can reach Panvel via Railway and Road. In monsoon, you can enjoy small waterfalls, perfect rainforest ambience, fog.
people visiting after October, please carry sufficient water and food.
Identity proof is needed at the time of entry.
Please save the forest from Biscuit Wrapper and plastic bottles. If you are caught my a Forst department person littering plastic or bottles, they can take legal action against you.

Karnala fort trek is a very good option for the first time trekkers as it's difficulty level is easy. It takes max 2 hours to reach to the top of the fort and in between the trek there are 4 Sheds to take a break and rest and once you have reached to the top it is all worth it seeing the view.

If you're visiting this place make sure YOU DO NOT LITTER. You will be fined if you throw any kind of garbage inside the Karnala Bird Sanctuary and Fort's premises.

Karnala Fort Trek | Monsoon | Panvel

Karnala Fort is a Fort situated at a height of 1440 ft. in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, almost 10 km from Panvel. Situated amidst a bird sanctuary, it actually houses two forts, one at a lower level and one at a higher level.

Basic Facts:

· Height: 1440ft

· Endurance level: Easy-Medium

· Nearest Railway Station: Panvel

· Time: 1:30 hrs (One-Way)

With a steep climb and bee hives all around the trek, this one surely is going to test your endurance and stamina. But the view at the top and the greenery all around the place is surely going to mesmerize your mind.

The best weather to experience this marvellous trek is the monsoons. With the foggy and cloudy weather along with slippery paved ways, you surely are going to get some adventure out of it. Do remember to check out the waterfalls carved due to the monsoon rains.

Tips:

· Carry ample amount of drinking water (2-3 litres per person)

· Remember to carry raincoats/ponchos

· Wear proper trekking shoes with decent traction

· Do carry a first-aid kit

The best way to get there is to take a local train till Panvel and then get a local bus or shared taxi from there.

Karnala fort (also called Funnel Hill is a hill fort in Raigad district about 10 km from Panvel city. Currently it is a protected place lying within the Karnala Bird Sanctuary. It was a fort of strategic importance as it overlooked the Bor pass which connected the Konkan coast to the interior of Maharashtra (Vidharba) and was the main trade route between these areas.

Karnala fort Trekking during the monsoon is really an refreshing experience. Karnala Fort is a Fort situated at a height of 1440 ft.

Today, the ruins of the fort are a popular destination for hiking and tourism. It is trek of 2 hour from the bottom of the hill. There are 5 resting places on the pathway made by forest department. The final climbing steps near the entrance of the fort are made safe by iron railings

Karnala Fort is around 10 Km from Panvel. It is one of the best destination for easy to medium level trekking near Mumbai. Especially in monsoon season Karnala Trek is one of the most amazing destination because of the greens and mating season of many forest wild animals and insects.

In the forest area, trekker will come across some amazing wild creatures such as rare kind of spiders, butterflies, insects, rat snakes etc.
It is must go place. Please check out the video.

Karnala Fort , Panvel, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra

Karnala Fort lies within Karnala Bird Sanctuary at a distance of 10 kms from Panvel. The fort was of strategic importance as it overlooked the Bor pass which connected the Konkan coast to the interior of Maharashtra. The fort was constructed before 1400 AD and lies at an elevation of 460 meter. The elevation of the starting point is almost 100 meter. So the trekkers need to climb 360 meters to reach the fort. It usually takes around 2 hours to reach the peak of the fort.

Points to be taken care of while trekking to the fort:
1. Ensure you wear suitable shoes for trekking , as during monsoon the path, consisting of rocks and roots, becomes slippery.
2. Carry with you enough drinking water as you won't find drinking water once you venture out. 2 liter per person should be sufficient.
3. The sanctuary is open from 7 AM to 6 PM . So try to reach the back to the base by 6 PM as it is not safe after dark.
4. Start early in the morning so that you don't feel the heat of the day.
5. Carry with you some food items in case you feel hungry.
6. If possible carry additional clothes , as either you may get wet in rain or in sweat . Either way it would be better to change once you come down.
7.Last but not the least don't forget to carry your camera to capture the panoramic view of the range. From the top the forts of Prabalgad, Manikgad, Haji Malang, Chanderi fort, Matheran, Sankshi fort, Dronagiri fort, and Rajmachi are clearly visible.

The following are the entry charges to the sanctuary:
Entry Charges : Rs 35( 30 + 5)
Parking charges : Rs 100
Camera charges : Rs 100( you can avoid it as nobody is there to monitor)
Security charges : Rs 100 per plastic bottle (refunded once you return)
