Poznanski Palace in Lodz, Poland
Palace of Poznanski family in Lodz, Poland. One of the most eminent entrepreneurs in the Russian-dominated part of Poland, Poznański was the son of a Jewish merchant of Kowal, who built up a textile empire and became, next to Karl/Karol Scheibler, the most important manufacturer of Łódź, a 'multicultural' city mainly populated by Poles (Catholic and Jewish) and Germans. The bourgeoisie of these groups was described in Reymont's novel about Łódź The Promised Land (Ziemia Obiecana), later filmed by Andrzej Wajda.
The largest 19th Century textile factory complex which was built by Izrael Poznanski has been turned into a shopping centre called Manufaktura which is an example of a modern business which operates in restored nineteenth century buildings.

Aleksandra Chciuk & Kuba Krzewiński - Black of Granule
Instalacja na 2 performerów, 1 słuchacza i fortepian w całkowicie wyciemnionym pokoju.
...Wszystko jest inaczej.
Na czarnej plaży w kierunku czarnej puszczy,
po dźwiękach w kłączach chmurzastej substancji,
poza mnogość widoków, w dziką czerń granulki.
Wszystko jest tak samo…

Installation for 2 performers, 1 listener and a Grand Piano in a pitch black room.
...Everything is different
At the black beach into the black wilderness,
through sounds in rhizomes of cloudy substance,
beyond multitude of sights, into the black of granule.
Everything stays the same…

Charity Dinner II Edition - 27.05.2012 (Association Friends of the World) Poland, Lodz
27.05.2012 Charity Dinner - Friends are Cooking II Edition - Culinary Impressions of Karol Okrasa (Association Friends of the World przyjacieleswiata.pl/en)
We help children with heart illnesses. We support Cardiological and Cardiac Surgery Wards for Children in CZMP hospital in Lodz managed by Professor Jadwiga Moll and Professor Jacek Moll.
A charity dinner with Karol Okrasa took place on May 27, 2012 at 6.30 p.m., in the large ballroom on the roof of the andel's Hotel Lodz. Proceeds from the dinner will support children with cardiac diseases. The dinner was the second edition of meetings called Friends are Cooking.
We decided to invite well-known people to preparecharity dinners. We are always guided by a charitable cause. Our Friends - in this edition it was Karol Okrasa always
help us gratuitously.
The dinner was prepared free of charge by Karol Okrasa.
The honorary guests of the reception and laureates of the Amicus statuette were : Patrizia Gucci, Ewa Minge, Marcellous Jones.
The honorary guests were taken on a trip around the highlights of Łódź by Ryszard Bonisławski and Andrzej Walczak.
The event was kindly attended by the Voivode of Lodz Jolanta Chełmińska and Mayor of Lodz Hanna Zdanowska.
The donation, which amounted to 60 thousand zloty, was passed to acquire medical equipment for the Children's Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at CZMP in Łódź, as well as a rehabilitation camp for children who underwent surgery due to congenital heart disease.
Female members of the „Friends of the World Association love Łódź and want to promote it. They organized an exceptional tour of the most beautiful places for Special Guests of the 2nd Edition of the Charity Dinner. The tour of Łódź guided by Ryszard Bonisławski, an enthusiast and expert of Łódź, and Andrzej Walczak gave our Guests unforgettable memories and encouraged them to come back and to promote Łódź abroad as well.
We showed them:
Izrael Poznański's Palace -- a 19th-century palace owned by a manufacturer, also called Louvre of Łódź. It borders a post-industrial complex known as Manufaktura.
ManufakturaShopping Centre
The Centre was built in the premises of the former factory owned by Izrael Poznański in Łódź. Poznański was one of the greatest manufacturers in Łódź.
A former 5-storey red-brick cotton mill is a showpiece of the complex. At present, it houses a 4-star andel's hotel (strategic sponsor of our Dinner), where our Guests stayed.
One of the entrances to Manufaktura leads through a former main factory gate resembling a triumphal arch, with renovated cast-iron doors and a mechanical clock, which is fully operational.
Andrzej Walczak told us about an unusual library called 5 in Lodz. Patrizia Gucci gave the library 5 books which have played the most significant role in her life. For this present, she received EC1 denim trousers, i.e. original trousers of eco cotton with an individual number. They also refer to the textile past of Łódź and to a legend of original American denim with a great input of Bernard Lichteinstein, an emigrant from Łódź and a tailor, known across the Atlantic as Rodeo Ben.
Księży Młyn -- a complex of textile factories and accompanying buildings constructed in Łódź from 1824. At present, this residential and industrial district is one of the most interesting industrial monuments in the world. As a complex, it was introduced to the register of historical monuments. For several years now, attempts have been made to have it entered to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
We also took a look at the construction site of EC1 and the art zone. We showed our Guests Piotrkowska Street and Gutenberg House, a historical building from the 19th century. We had lunch in Klub Spadkobierców (Piotrkowska 77). The building at Piotrkowska 77, with its architectural values, can undoubtedly be counted among the greatest architectural monuments of eclecticism in Łódź (ceilings, original tiled stoves, stained glass windows).

The establishment of a Polish state can be traced back to 966, when Mieszko I, ruler of a territory roughly coextensive with that of present-day Poland, converted to Christianity. The Kingdom of Poland was founded in 1025, and in 1569 it cemented a longstanding political association with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania by signing the Union of Lublin. This union formed the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, one of the largest and most populous countries of 16th and 17th century Europe with a uniquely liberal political system which declared Europe's fir...
