9 taxi passengers die after a crash on N1, Western Cape
Nine taxi passengers have been killed after the minibus they were travelling in crashed on the N-1 between Prince Albert Road and Leeu Gamka in the Karoo region of the Western Cape. Provincial Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa, says the driver apparently lost control and the taxi rolled. Six other passangers were seriously injured.

This video is about the Karoo of South Africa. The Karoo is a vast semi-arid region of central and southern South Africa, roughly twice the size of France. It covers 45% of South Africa itself and was traditionally exploited by low-intensity sheep farming. Today, expansive game reserves are returning some of the land to its pre-European condition and stocking it with indigenous wildlife. The Karoo is a tough landscape with hardy rural communities pitted against the harsh conditions of the near-desert environment. The geology of the Karoo is famous for its expansive, flat-lying outcrops of Permian and Early Triassic sediments. These rocks are host to some of the world's best fossil reptiles representing the early evolution of land animals.

That region is called the Little Karoo and most of the time we have followed Route 62
The video shots were almost all taken from out of the car so they are not perfect but in that way I try to give the viewer an impression of what I have seen.

Worst drought ever in the Western Cape
One of the worst droughts in living memory has the Western Cape on its knees. The four-year long drought has resulted in wide-spread water shortages, a significant drop in agricultural production and tens of thousands of job losses. The Karoo has been the hardest hit with farmers losing livestock and crops, and towns pleading for donations of water to supply to their residents. However, organisations and citizens have been stepping in to help.

People often ask us how it is to stay at a restcamp of South African national parks.
The cottages/bungalows are at a high standard most of them have aircondition and a kitchen. The bungalows are cleaned every day, but meals are not included (except excellent breakfast at Karoo!).

Stillbaai is a small town in the Western Cape
In our small town segment this week, we profile Stillbaai in the Western Cape.
The coastal hamlet lies 30 kilometres off the N-2, between Albertinia and Riversdale along the Garden Route.
Recent discoveries of caves in the area, have scientists speculating that it could be the birthplace of modern human beings, about 100 thousand years ago.
