This is a very short and quick tour around El Casbah of Algiers. There are many other locations you can visit in the Casbah, but my favorite place Mustapha Pacha palace which I've covered in the first part of the video.

The Crumbling Casbah of Algiers - BBC News
For centuries Algiers' Casbah has been home to sultans, pirates, freedom fighters and artisans. But now this UN World Heritage site is in deep trouble. Years of neglect has led to the collapse of more than a third of the area's properties. A foundation to restore the Casbah was set up in 1990, but since then very little has been achieved.
Head of the Casbah Restoration Project Abdelouahab Zekagh explains the reasons behind the delay. Video produced, filmed and edited by Howard Johnson.

Destination Algérie - Bienvenue à la Casbah d'Alger
La Casbah, cette vieille ville existe depuis plus de deux mille ans. Elle a été fondée sur les ruines romaines d'Icosium par le prince Bologhine ibn ziri en 960. Elle s'étendait sur une superficie de 60 hectares avec des remparts dont l'accès se faisait par cinq portes.
Plusieurs légendes tournent autour de son histoire. D'après les récits, cette ville fut découverte par les vingt compagnons d'Hercule. Devenue un comptoir phénicien, baptisé icosim qui signifie l'île aux mouettes. Plus tard les romains l'appellent Icosium.
La ville va jouer un rôle important dans le pourtour méditerranéen durant le règne des princes zirides. C'est dans cette période qu'elle sera nommée El Djazair. Plus tard, durant la période Ottomane, El Djazair va devenir une puissance navale qui lui vaudra une réputation internationale.

I spend a couple of days exploring Algiers دزاير, Algeria's capital city. I begin at the Martyrs' Memorial and Botanical Garden, before heading to the old city, where I visit Palais des Rais and the enchanting old streets of the Casbah (the largest Casbah in the Arabic world) and the Ketchaoua Mosque.

Casbah of Algiers - La Casbah d'Alger - القصبة الجزائرية -
The Casbah (Arabic: قصبة, qaṣba, meaning citadel (fortress)) is specifically the citadel of Algiers in Algeria and the traditional quarter clustered around it. More generally, a kasbah is the walled citadel of many North African cities and towns. The name made its way into English from French in the late 19th century (the Oxford English Dictionary states 1895), and often is spelled kasbah, but also casbah.
