Morocco, Maroc, Kasbah de Taourirt Ouarzazate
Située à la rencontre des vallées de l'oued Ouarzazate et de l'oued Dadès (issus du Haut Atlas) qui forment l'oued Draa à l'aval de leur confluent, elle est le centre névralgique d'une vaste région du Sud Marocain. Ouarzazate évoque à la fois les contreforts sud du Haut Atlas et la proximité du désert.
Ses innombrables kasbahs en pisé, des montagnes et plaines arides, des vallées et oasis verdoyants, des palmeraies et des villages de terre rouge ou ocre font le charme de cette région et lui donnent son attrait touristique.
Le symbole de la ville est la kasbah de Taourirt (ci-contre) qui a appartenu au Glaoui, elle aurait été bâtie vers le milieu du xviiie siècle. Elle est représentée dans les nouveaux billets de 50 dirhams et jouxte la médina.
L'agglomération du Grand-Ouarzazate se prolonge du côté Sud de l'oued par le village de Tabount — parfois appelé « Ouarzazate-Sud » — qui fait partie, comme la kasbah de Tifoultoute, de la commune rurale de Tarmigte1.
Ouarzazate (Berber: ⵡⴰⵔ ⵣⴰⵣⴰⵝ Warzazat, Arabic: ورزازات, lit. noiselessly), nicknamed The door of the desert, is a city and capital of Ouarzazate Province in the Souss-Massa-Drâa of southern-central Morocco. Ouarzazate is at an elevation of 1,160 metres (3,810 ft) in the middle of a bare plateau south of the High Atlas Mountains. To the south of the town is the desert.
The town is chiefly inhabited by Berbers, who constructed many of the prominent kasbahs and buildings for which the area is known. Ouarzazate is an important holiday destination in Morocco, as a base for excursions across the Draa Valley and into the desert. The fortified village (ksar) of Ait Benhaddou west of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Ouarzazate area is a noted film-making location, with Morocco's biggest studios inviting many international companies to work here. Films such as Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Living Daylights (1987), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Kundun (1997), Legionnaire (1998), Hanna (2011), and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011) were shot here.

Aït-ben-Haddou (en tifinagh : Ath Benhadu, en arabe : آيت بن حدّو) est un ksar du Maroc inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, dans la province de Ouarzazate.
Aït-ben-Haddou est situé dans la vallée de l'Ounila, au sud de Télouet, fief du Glaoui, vallée qui était un point de passage traditionnel des caravanes reliant Marrakech au sud du Sahara1.
C'est un exemple frappant de l'architecture du sud marocain traditionnel, sur le flanc d'une colline au sommet de laquelle se trouvait un grenier collectif. Le village se présente comme un ensemble de bâtiments de terre entourés de murailles, le ksar, qui est un type d'habitat traditionnel présaharien. Les maisons se regroupent à l'intérieur de ses murs défensifs renforcés par des tours d'angle.
Tout autour de ce douar un ensemble de villages se regroupe. Tous ont été attirés par une rivière qui traverse une vallée. Les habitants de ces douars sont pour la plupart des berbères anciennement nomades qui ont ensuite choisi la sédentarité pour des raisons diverses.
Le ksar d'Aït-ben-Haddou est inscrit sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO depuis 1987. Surnommé « le Mont-saint-Michel des chleuhs2 » pendant le protectorat français, plusieurs films y ont été tournés parmi lesquels :

Aït Benhaddou (Berber: Ath Benhadu, Arabic: آيت بن حدّو) is a fortified city, or ksar, along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech in present-day Morocco. It is situated in Souss-Massa-Drâa on a hill along the Ounila River and is known for its kasbahs, although they take damage with each rainstorm. Most of the town's inhabitants now live in a more modern village at the other side of the river; however, eight families still live within the ksar.
Aït Benhaddou has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987[1] and several films have been shot there, including;

There're stunning views from the roof terrace and a breeding pair of peregrine falcons in the seemingly much older, now ruined, parts of the fort.
Ouarzazate to Kasbah Itran
After nearly four hundred kilometres and some stunning and memorable scenery on the way east from Agadir and after leaving the village of Ait Ben Haddou we passed through Ouarzazate with its famous film studios and reached a hotel called Kasbah Itran (The Kasbah of the stars) recommended to us by a friend. It is a few kilometres outside a town called Kelaa M'gouna, named after the river on which it lies and the second highest peak in Morocco M'goun (4071 m) , which is not far north of the town. I did not explore the valley of the river M'gouna and that is left for another day. It is I am sure just as beautiful and stunning as the one I visited, Dades and Todra. Au centre, et entouré par un mur de terre de quatre mètres de haut à la façon des constructions traditionnelles marocaines, se trouve le complexe de 5 000 mètres carrés qui accueille non seulement le restaurant gastronomique mais aussi une salle d'exposition, un espace de musique en direct, une salle de projection de cinéma (curieusement le seul cinéma du petit Hollywood marocain !) et l'Ecole de Cuisine qui contribue à la formation des jeunes de la région tout en garantissant la continuité de notre offre gastronomique et nos exigeants niveaux de qualité. Notre Epicerie Fine nous permet de distribuer les produits choisis par nos soins à d'autres restaurants de la région.

Esta impactante Kasbah en la localidad de Ouarzazate, declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad, fue la residencia de uno de los gobernadores más poderoso de la región.
La kasbah fue construida en el siglo XVIII, aunque la mayor parte de la estructura fue levantada en el siglo XX por orden de Jamadi EL Glaoui, hermano del pachá de Marrakech, también conocido como el señor del Atlas.
Actualmente es la sede de una organización encargada de la conservación del patrimonio arquitectónico del sur de Marruecos, pero no terminan aquí sus méritos; desde el punto de vista arquitectónico, es una compleja superposición de muros y torres almenadas que forman una verdadera fortificación.

À l'est du pays, Ouarzazate, Zagora et Tinghir expriment la diversité culturelle du Maroc: elles témoignent des traditions les plus enracinées mais la création contemporaine n'est pas en reste en célébrant les plus grandes heures du cinéma!
Ouarzazate est une des portes du désert. Un peu à l'écart de la ville, la Kasbah de Tifoultoute se dresse en sentinelle. Les amateurs de cinéma reconnaîtront ces paysages : c'est au milieu d'eux que le Laurence d'Arabie de David Lean a été tourné. A Ouarzazate, le cinéma est roi: les studios ont servi de décor à Babel avec Brad Pitt, Le Diamant du Nil avec Michael Douglas, La Dernière Tentation du Christ de Martin Scorsese, Un Thé au Sahara avec John Malkovich, Gladiator et Kingdom of Heaven de Ridley Scott et bien d'autres productions internationalement connues.
D'autres pièces du patrimoine méritent encore le détour dans la région. Ainsi, le ksar (forteresse) Aït Benhaddou qui s'élève au milieu de la vallée de l'Ounila. Ses bâtisses flanquent une colline jusqu'à son sommet où est bâti un ancien grenier à céréales. Plus loin, à Imadri, ce sont des maisons troglodytes qui peuvent être visitées. Enfin, dans la vallée du Drâa, Tamgrout, un autre de ces villages creusés à même la roche, accueille l'une des plus fameuses et des plus anciennes bibliothèques coraniques du pays : certains des manuscrits qui y sont conservés ont près de 1000 ans d'existence !
Tinghir et Zagora ne sont pas non plus sans attraits. Dans la première, vous déambulez au milieu du mellah Aït El Haj : à l'ombre de ses murs de pisé, au milieu de rues étroites que baigne une lumière ocre, vous découvrez l'ancien quartier juif, tout un pan de l'histoire de la ville. Aux alentours de Zagora, l'atmosphère est toute différente. Le site de Tazzarine vous mène jusqu'aux portes de la préhistoire : gravées sur la roche, des inscriptions vieilles de 5000 ans témoignent de l'histoire plurimillénaire du pays.
Gravures rupestres, Kasbah majestueuses et studios hollywoodiens... le Maroc, une terre de contrastes assurément !

The wonders of southern Morocco!
Ouarzazate, Zagora and Tinghir in the east of Morocco represent the country's cultural diversity. They bear witness to the most deeply seated traditions, but contemporary creations are also honored with nods to some of cinema's finest hours.
Ouarzazate is one of the gateways to the desert. The Tifoultoute Kasbah stands guard just outside the city. Film buffs will recognize these landscapes: this is where David Lean shot Lawrence of Arabia. The movies rule in Ouarzazate: its studios were used for Babel with Brad Pitt, The Jewel of the Nile with Michael Douglas, The Last Temptation of Christ by Martin Scorsese, Tea in the Sahara with John Malkovich, Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven by Ridley Scott, and many other internationally known productions.
Other aspects of Moroccan heritage are also worth a visit in the region, such as the Aït Beck ksar (fortress), which towers above the Ounila valley. Its structures are built into the side of a hill right up to its summit, where an old granary still stands. A bit further in Imadri, you can visit cliff dwellings. Finally, look to the Draa valley for Tamgrout, where another village carved into the same rock is home to one of the country's oldest and most famous Koranic libraries. Some of the manuscripts stored here are nearly 1,000 years old!
Tinghir and Zagora also have plenty of attractions. In Tinghir, you can walk through the Aït El Haj mellah. Along narrow streets between the shade of adobe walls and ocher-tinged light, explore the old Jewish quarter and a slice of the city's past. The atmosphere around Zagora is totally different. Go as far back as prehistoric times at Tazzarine, where rocks bear inscriptions that are 5,000 years old and attest to the country's many millennia of history.
Rock carvings, majestic kasbahs and Hollywood studios... Morocco is most assuredly a land of contrasts!

Ouarzazate in Morocco is known as the door to the desert, the city is one of the beautiful travel destinations in the country. It offers plenty places to visit around : Kasbahs, Valleys, Oases, Atlas mountains, and Villages of red earth.
Ouarzazate is also considered to be the Hollyood of Morocco and Africa. It became world-famous for its movie studios.
In this video I am sharing with you guys my Ouarzazate trip.

Ouarzazate est surnommée la porte du désert du Maroc, la ville est célèbre pour ses nombreuses Kasbahs, ses vallées, ses oasis, et ses montagnes de l’Atlas. Sans oublier ses studios de cinéma qui lui valent sa réputation d’Hollywood du Maroc et de l’Afrique.

The legendary Glaoui family were dominating this mountainous area on the High Atlas mountains in South Morocco and were controlling the caravan trade between Sub-Saharan Africa and Morocco. They have built many kasbahs and this is one of the remaining ( or what is left) ones
Telouet Kasbah in Ouarzazate - قصبة تلوات في ورزازات
The kasbah Telouet, also known as the palace of Glaoui, is a kasbah built in the eighteenth
and nineteenth centuries in the heart of the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco and more
specifically in the village Telouet.
At the heart of Hollywood's capital of Africa, Ouarzazate, the inhabitants of the kasbah enjoy
the passage of the trading caravans to have a meeting but now, the village and the kasbah are
accessible through the Tichka road which shortens the distance between Marrakech and
Ouerzazate.
The kasbah of Telouet is in oblivion but it still testifies on a whole moroccan history of its
lords who occupied it for more than 50 years! And that lets me to admire my visit to this quite
authentic and memorable place.
