How To Visit A Shrine In Japan // Kashihara Shrine, Nara
Want to know the proper etiquette and behaviour for visiting a sacred Shrine in Japan. Here's what to expect, how to act and some quick tips for visiting a Japanese shrine. I visited 3 Shrines here in the Nara Prefecture over the past few days and here's what I learned about the difference between a Shrine and a Temple, what the different amulets and holy arrows stand for and of course how to properly worship inside a shrine.

▼Kashihara-jingu Shrine.
Kashihara was described as the place where Japan was founded in 'Nihonshoki' which is said to be the oldest official history of Japan.
Kamuyamatoiwarebiko no mikoto (Kamuyamato rebiko miko) (Later Emperor Jinmu) was a descendant of Amaterasu Omikami (sweet wolf).
Heading east from Takachiho no Miya Palace in Kyushu for the creation of a prosperous and peaceful country.
Overcoming unimaginable hardship, Kashihara Palace was built at the southeast foot of Mount Unebi (Unebiyama).
He was enthroned as the first emperor of Japan about 2,600 years ago.
Kashihara, the birthplace of Japanese history and culture, can be said to be the origin of Japan.

藤原宮跡の蓮を撮影していた時、バックに見えていた畝傍山が気になっていました。
撮影後少し時間が取れたので麓の橿原神宮に参拝してきました。
広大な敷地のなかにある大きな神社です。実は妹がこの神社で結婚式を挙げています。
それ以来訪れた事がなかったのでほとんど忘れていました。
明治２３年（1890年）創建で神武天皇を祀っています。思ったより新しいですね。
ちなみに｢神宮｣とつくのは天皇を祀っている神社だそうです。

Jukendo - Japanese Bayonet Fighting at Kashihara Jingu and Budokan 銃剣道
Jukendo is Japanese Bayonet Fighting which developed out of French bayonet fighting techniques and old Japanese spear fighting from the mid-late 19th Century.
I filmed some jukendo at Kashihara Jingu on National Foundation Day and at Budokan at their Kagami Biraki event:

Kashihara Shrine was established in 1889 to enshrine Emperor Jimmu, Japan's first emperor. It is believed that Jimmu ascended the throne at the spot where the shrine now stands. Despite the fact that it was constructed relatively recently, Kashihara Shrine is an important and very popular shrine. It is situated in a preserved forest sanctuary at the foot of Mount Unebi, one of the three Yamato mountains.
The shrine grounds are extensive which contain pleasant paths leading through the forest that surrounds the buildings. Emperor Meiji donated two buildings from the Kyoto Imperial Palace to the shrine at the time of construction. One of the two building is today used as the shrine's main hall (honden), which can be viewed from the prayer hall (haiden) from some distance away.
Hours: 6:30 to 17:00 (It varies depending on season.)
Closed: Opened all year round.
Admission: Free
Access information
Kashihara Shrine can be reached in a couple of minutes by rental bicycle or ten minutes by foot from Kashiharajingu-mae Station.

今回は神社の参拝。
まずは橿原神宮に参拝。
以前、畝傍山に登った時。
ふもとに神社があるのを知りましたが。
参拝せずだったので。
今回、参拝しました。
広い境内に。
大きな本殿。
そして、長山稲荷社。
赤い鳥居の先にひっそりとたたずむ神社。

Kashiharajingu shrine in this video is relatively new compared with other Shinto shrines, but this shrine is regarded as one of the most important shrines of all.
