SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go visit the beautiful Greek island of Skiathos in the Aegean Sea and let's visit one of the most spectacular and remote beaches, the beach of Kastro (or, Fort). The beach of Kastro is in the northernmost area of the island, just below the old fort (Kastro) of the old town of Skiathos, the fort was built in 1360AD and people lived there until the 1820s. The beautiful beach is approximately 12 km from the modern town (Hora) of Skiathos and can be reached via a very steep path (as you will see on the video).
Skiathos, a Greek island in the northwest Aegean Sea, is part of the Sporades archipelago. It’s best known for its beaches and buzzing, youth-driven nightlife scene. The action centers around Skiathos Town, where bars and restaurants spill onto sidewalks along the old harbor and Papadiamanti street, the main pedestrian thoroughfare. Between town and the airport are many open-air, waterfront clubs.

This lovely beach is situated on the northern tip of the island, under the old medieval city of Skiathos. The combination of a swim in the bluish transparent waters and a visit to the old city of Kastro is a unique experience you must not miss while you are in Skiathos. You can reach Kastro very easily on one of the boats running daily from Skiathos to Kastro.

During the 16th century, the island's population decided to shift to the unconquerable rock, which is located to the northeast of Skiathos and build their own castle. In the past, the narrow drawbridge served as the only link with the island. Remaining in the castle neighborhood are the town walls, the trademark drawbridge, the Turkish baths and remnants of a few churches, all of which make a visit to castle a memorable experience. The castle town was strategically built on a rocky cliff that literally hangs above the sea on the northern coast of the island. One can hike up to the castle town, but it is a steep hike and takes around 3 hours. You can also rent a jeep tour at most travel agencies in Skiathos Town.

Skiathos 2009 Kastro Beach

Kastro beach - Skiathos island 2009....Kastro Beach is another pleasant beach and is situated on the northern tip of the island below the site of the medieval capital of Skiathos. There is a fantastic view from the top of the cliff which rises on the western side of the beach.

Access: the shortest route is from the Evangelistria turn on the main road, right after bus stop 1. Distance from the turn 9.2 km

August 2010 - the most famous beach of Skiathos. it's nice, water and sand are fantastic. too many umbrellas.

Skiathos - Lalaria beach- 2010

August 2010. You need a boat to get to Lalaria beach. For 10€ from the port of Skiathos you have a passage to Lalaria, where you stay 2h and the 1h in Kastro.
Kastro can be reached via road too.

Under the old medieval town of Skiathos, at the northernmost point of the island, lies a beautiful beach called Kastro (Castle).

The castle was a refuge for the islanders over five centuries. The continuing and devastating raids of pirates and plunder was the main reason that forced the islanders to leave their ancient city near modern port and migrate to this natural fortress.

The combination of a swim in the crystal clear waters and a visit to the ruins of the castle, it is definitely one of the tours you should not miss during your stay in Skiathos.

In the castle you can get very easily on one of the boats running daily from the port of Skiathos or covering a chunk of dirt road and some distance away.

Not as good as Lalaria, but not bad either. Taken on a boat tour around the Skiathos.
