Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Nara - 春日大社 - Japan As It Truly Is
Kasuga Taisha is Nara's undersung jewel and has a history going back to 768 AD. It's famous for its more than 3000 lanterns.
The approach to Kasuga Grand Shrine is through the Kasugayama Primeval Forest, and both are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The walk through Nara Park past the many deer is very relaxing, and you can also see here several smaller shrines next to Kasuga - the area has been preserved as it was over 1200 years ago.
There are several annual festivals at Kasuga Taisha also - in February, March, and August.
The Todaiji Temple as well as the Isuien Garden and Yoshikien Garden get a lot more attention, but don't miss this huge shrine which you'll never forget.

お腹が黄色いところから、「キバラガラ（黄腹雀）」と言うそうです。
この鳥は昨年（２０１２年）１１月、福岡県春日市春日公園に居るのが確認
された中国固有の鳥で、国内では数回しか確認されていないそうです。

KASUGA TAISHA SHRINE is a must to go when you visit NARA city in JAPAN. It’s walking distance from JR NARA station. On the way there, you get through NARA park and will see lots of wild deers. In early to mid April, beautiful cherry blossoms (SAKURA) can be seen. In this video, I walked from KII shrine just 10 minutes walking to KASUGA TAISHA SHRINE but surrounded by deep forest with fresh air and birds singing. Cherry blossoms just in front of KASUGA TAISHA SHRINE is called as SHIDARE ZAKURA.

Kasuga-taisha - Nara - 春日大社 - 4K Ultra HD
Established in 768 and rebuilt several times over the centuries, Kasuga-taisha is the shrine of the Fujiwara Family and famous for its many bronze and stone lanterns.
Alongside the Kasugayama Primeval Forest near it, the Kasuga-taisha is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara.
The shrine became the object of imperial patronage during the early Heian period. In 965, Emperor Murakami ordered imperial messengers to be sent out to report on the important events related to the guardian kami of Japan. These Heihaku were initially presented to 16 shrines including the Kasuga Shrine.
From 1871 through 1946, Kasuga Shrine was officially designated as one of the Kanpei-taisha, or one of the few first ranked of government supported shrines.

We went to Aishu Kasuga Shrine and Matano Park
I don't do much talking in this video. It basically just our day out at the park. This shrine is across the street from the park. I love how Aishu Shrine has a mini zoo of deer, and you can feed them too. There is also great parking.

The path to Kasuga Shrine passes through Deer Park. In Deer Park, deer are able to roam freely and are believed to be sacred messengers of the Shinto gods that inhabit the shrine and surrounding mountainous terrain.

Japan Trip 2018 - Day 7 - Nara Park, Kasuga Taisha Shrine, Nigatsudo Hall, Todaiji Temple
Day 7 was another glorious sunny day in the land of the rising sun. We started at Nara Station and met up with Hiro our private tour guide for the day.
First stop was Nara Park, home to over 1200 sika deer that freely roam the park. They amazingly bow three times by nodding their heads when visitors give them food.
Within the Nara Park grounds was Kasuga Taisha Shrine, a Shinto shrine of the Fujiwara family. The interior is famous for its many bronze lanterns, as well as the many stone lanterns that lead up the shrine. The deer are believed to be sacred messengers of the Shinto gods that inhabit the shrine and surrounding mountainous terrain.
Nigatsudo Hall was our next stop. It is home to the Omizutori which is a sacred water-drawing festival, a Japanese Buddhist festival that is the final rite of the Shuni-e ceremony where monks bearing torches go to the Wakasa well underneath the hall which according to legend only springs forth water once a year.
We also came across the Todaiji Great Bell which weighs 26.3 tons, dates from the time of the founding of Tōdai-ji. One of the Three Famous Bells of Japan, it is known for its long ring.
One of the most amazing structures I've ever seen is the Todaiji Daibutsuden or Great Buddha Hall. It houses the worlds largest bronze statue of Buddha, Vairocana known in Japanese as Daibutsu.
I also had a go at climbing through Buddha's Nostril, which is a large supporting post with a square hole in it that is said to be the same size as one of the nostrils of the huge statue of Buddha. If you can squeeze through the hole, you can apparently earn enlightenment in your next life!

The path to Kasuga Shrine passes through Deer Park (where tame deer roam free). Over a thousand stone lanterns line the way. The Man'yo Botanical Garden, Nara is adjacent to the shrine.
