How To Visit A Shrine In Japan // Kashihara Shrine, Nara
Want to know the proper etiquette and behaviour for visiting a sacred Shrine in Japan. Here's what to expect, how to act and some quick tips for visiting a Japanese shrine. I visited 3 Shrines here in the Nara Prefecture over the past few days and here's what I learned about the difference between a Shrine and a Temple, what the different amulets and holy arrows stand for and of course how to properly worship inside a shrine.
The shrine in the video is Kashihara Shrine in Nara Prefecture. Thanks to Visit Nara for organizing.
Kasuga Shrine 春日大社
Kasuga Shrine is located in beautiful Nara Japan.
This was the shrine of the powerful Fujiwara clan, of which Yakushimaru Ryushin, founder of Kukishin Ryu Jujutsu, was a decendant.
Video was taken with a Sony FX1. Simple editing was done in Final Cut Pro.
You can read about this shrine at this link.

▼What is Kasuga-taisha Shrine?
Ancient myths tell us that about 1300 years ago when the national capital was built in Nara, Takemikazuchi-no-mikoto came all the way from Kashima Shrine (Ibaraki Prefecture) to Mt. Mikasa, which is considered a holy mountain, to dwell on its summit “Ukigumo-no-mine” for the prosperity of the nation and happiness of the people. Later on, when Tempyo Culture flourished, the political leader Fujiwara-no-Nagate built magnificent buildings on the present site of the shrine as ordained by Empress Shotoku. On November 9, 768, he enshrined several gods here, namely Futsunushi-no-mikoto from Katori Shrine (Chiba Prefecture), and Amenokoyane-no-mikoto and Himegami from Hiraoka Shrine (Osaka Prefecture). This is how Kasuga Taisha began.

▼Kashihara-jingu Shrine.
Kashihara was described as the place where Japan was founded in 'Nihonshoki' which is said to be the oldest official history of Japan.
Kamuyamatoiwarebiko no mikoto (Kamuyamato rebiko miko) (Later Emperor Jinmu) was a descendant of Amaterasu Omikami (sweet wolf).
Heading east from Takachiho no Miya Palace in Kyushu for the creation of a prosperous and peaceful country.
Overcoming unimaginable hardship, Kashihara Palace was built at the southeast foot of Mount Unebi (Unebiyama).
He was enthroned as the first emperor of Japan about 2,600 years ago.
Kashihara, the birthplace of Japanese history and culture, can be said to be the origin of Japan.

About 500 years ago, Imai Cho has prospered enormously as one of the biggest commercial city in Japan.
There was a famous saying in the past that 70% of Yamato's gold can be found within Imai.
A thousand of old traditional architectures still remains in this town.
When you visit here, you can still find the real lives of people.
And you could feel the roots of Japanese with a little sense of nostalgia.
