???? Check out our trip to the Katsuren Castle Ruins in Uruma, Okinawa, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the designated Castles of the Ryukyu ???? (the indigenous people of Okinawa). Katsuren Castle was the seat of Lord Amawari in the 15th century. We found a cave where refugees would hide during war and a Matchmaking Spring where couples would come to meet in secret. ????

Katsuren Castle (勝連城 Katsuren jō) is a Ryūkyūan gusuku in Uruma, Okinawa. In the Okinawan language the castle is known as Kacchin Gushiku. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 as part of one of the nine Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu.
The Katsuren Castle Ruins sit on a steep hill close to the coast and offer attractive views over the landscape below. Just a few stone walls and foundations remain of the former castle.

The Katsuren Castle Ruins are located in central Okinawa Honto in the middle of the Yokatsu Peninsula that juts out to the east of the island, about 25 kilometers northeast of Naha.
Via bus
1.From Naha Bus Terminal, board bus number 52 to Katsuren Danchi-mae (勝連団地前, 100 minutes, 1240 yen, 1-2 buses/hour), from where the castle ruins can be reached in a five minute walk.
2. Board bus number 27 to Nishihara bus stop (西原, 1-2 buses/hour), but the bus ride takes 20 minutes longer and the bus stop is a ten minute walk from the castle ruins.

那覇から車で沖縄のグスクなどの琉球王国の史跡群から構成されるユネスコの世界遺産を構成している１つである勝連城跡に。
城跡は南城、中間の内、北城で構成されていおり、北城は石垣で仕切られた一から三の郭が階段状に連なり、一の郭が最も高く標高約100mの丘陵上にあり、一番上の郭からは360度の絶景を楽しむ事が出来ます。
非常に堅固な城で当時の姿が脳裏に浮かびました。
13世紀～14世紀に茂知附按司により築城されたといわれるお城で、この城の最後の城主が阿麻和利。
阿麻和利はクーデターを起こしてこの地方の按司となり、琉球の統一を目論んだが1458年に琉球王府によって滅ぼされました。その年に廃城に。
昭和47年の沖縄本土復帰とともに日本の史跡に。
平成12年11月に、琉球王国のグスク及び関連遺産群としてユネスコの世界文化遺産に登録。

Katsuren Castle Ruins 勝連城跡
Katsuren Castle Ruins is located in Uruma, Okinawa. It is said that it was originally built in between the 12th century and the 13th century. It is famous as the residence of its last castelan, Lord Amawari, who defeated Lord Gosamaru of Nakagusuku Castle in 1458, and then set out for Shuri to attack the king of the Ryukyu Kingdom only to be defeated instead.
This castle is one of the places designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Okinawa.
It is believed that Katsuren Castle is the oldest among them.
勝連城跡はうるま市に位置。もとは12世紀から13世紀の間に建てられたと言われている。最後の城主阿麻和利が居城した城として有名で、1458年に中城城の護佐丸を打ち破り、琉球国王を攻めるために首里に向かうも逆に打ち負かされる。
この城はユネスコ世界遺産に指定された沖縄の史跡の一つであり、勝連城はその中でも最も古いものと言われている。

Esta caverna fue abierta al público en Octubre del 2017; según dice la historia aquí se refugiaron 300 personas durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial para salvar su vida.
Katsuren and Zakimi Castle Ruins
Here I am visiting Katsuren Castle ruin in Uruma, Okinawa and Zakimi Castle ruin in Yomitan, Okinawa. Both sites have amazing views. I visited Katsuren ruin on a nice sunny day. I visited Zakimi ruin on a cloudy day. Katsuren Castle ruin has cave entrances that supposedly connect to each other among other ritualistic/superficial artifacts such as an alter for priestess and a spring. Zakimi Castle ruin has amazing archways. Hope you visit these sites someday.

Katsuren Castle is one of the most spectacular castle ruins on Okinawa. It was built on a large hill of Ryukyuan limestone, 98 meters (322 ft) above sea level on the Katsuren Peninsula. With the Pacific Ocean on two sides, it is also called the Ocean Gusuku.
