Aerial view of Meili snow mountain in Yunnan, China [ 航拍中国 ]007 航拍梅里雪山
Mainri Snow Mountain (Tibetan: སྨན་རི།) is a mountain range in the Chinese province of Yunnan. It lies close to the northwestern boundary of the province and is bounded by the Salween River on the west and the Mekong on the east.[1] The Meili are subrange of the larger Nu Mountains, themselves a constituent range of the Hengduan group.
The crest of the range rises to over 6,000 metres (20,000 ft) above sea level, making for impressive prominence over the river valleys to the east and west, which are between 1,500 metres (4,900 ft) and 1,900 metres (6,200 ft) in elevation. The highest peak is Kawagebo, which rises to 6,740 metres (22,110 ft). Kawagebo is considered sacred for Tibetan Buddhists. Other significant peaks include Mianzimu, Cogar Laka and Jiariren-an. Because of restrictions and dangerous conditions, none of the major peaks in the range have ever been summited.
In January 1991, six Chinese and eleven Japanese mountaineers lost their lives to an avalanche, one of the worst climbing accidents in China.

From Lijiang to Zhongdian, Deqen, Fe Lai Si and finally reaching Mount Kawagebo and Mingyong Glacier on the chinese border with Tibet.
At 6,740m (22,113ft) Kawagebo is one of the most sacred mountains for Tibetan Buddhism. The highest peak is still unclimbed.
Mingyong glacier descends from Kawagebo to the Mekong River.

【第40集】Heading to Feilaisi, Shangri-La October 2019 = The Gateway to Yubeng Village =
Feilaisi (or Feilai Temple), literally “Flying Temple”, is an ideal place to view the east faces of the 13 peaks of the Prince Snow Mountain (太子雪山), also known as Meili Snow Mountain and Meili Jokul (梅里雪山).
Feilaisi (Feilai Temple 飞来寺) is a small Tibetan temple on the National Highway G214 dedicated to the spirits of Kawagarbo at 6740 meters (卡瓦博格峰), the highest peak in Meili Snow Mountain (Meili Jokul).
About 2km outside the monastery there is a growing number of inns and hostels to meet the increasing demand of tourists who come here to view Kawagarbo.
Feilaisi is located above the Mekong valley (澜沧江河谷) at an altitude of 3300 meters, about 10 km to the southwest of Shengping (升平镇), the seat of Deqin County ( 德钦县).
It has a geographical advantage to have a clear view of the east side of Meili Snow Mountain Range which is bounded by the Salween River ( Nujiang 怒江 in Chinese) on the west and the Mekong (Lancangjiang 澜沧江 in Chinese) on the east. The snow mountain rises about 10 km west of Feilaisi.
Kawagarbo, or Kawagebo Peak 卡瓦格博峰 in Chinese, is the highest peak of the 13 peaks of the Prince Snow Mountain (太子雪山), also known as Meili Snow Mountain and Meili Jokul (梅里雪山), a small part of the much more extensive Hengduan Mountains (横断山脉), the major north-south complex of mountains lying along the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau in eastern Tibet.
Kawagebo Peak is often billed as the most beautiful snow mountain peak in the world. It is one of the most sacred peaks in the Tibetan world, the spiritual home of a warrior god of the same name.
Kawagebo Peak is still a virgin mountain though several attempts have been made in the past by the mountaineering teams from China, Japan, the US and the UK. They have all failed mainly due to the extremely complicated geographical conditions and incremental weather.
Kawagebo Peak climbing has also caused heavy protests from the local Tibetan community due to the mountain’s cultural and religious importance. On 3 January 1991, a nighttime avalanche killed all seventeen members of the Sino-Japanese expedition, one of the most disastrous mountaineering accidents in history.
In 2000, the local government passed relative laws banning all future climbing attempts on cultural and religious grounds.

Deqen County 德 欽 縣, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture 迪 慶 藏 族 自 治 州 in Yunnan Province 雲 南 省
Diqing is in the northwest of Yunnan and overseas the prefecture-city of Shangri La City 香 格 里 拉 市, or called Zhongdian 中 甸, and 2 counties; namely, Weixi Lisu Autonomous County 维 西 傈 僳 族 自 治 縣, and Deqen or Deqin County.
Deqen has a heritage from the southern Kham 喀 木 or 康 區.
Feilai Si 飛 來 寺 in Deqen County 德 欽 縣
Feilai Si, Naka Zhashi or Trashi Gompa in Tibetan, is 10 km further from Deqen on the National Highway 214. In China, some places are named after their temples and Feilai Si is one of them.
Feilai Si is where we shall see the majestic Kawagarbo 卡 瓦 格 博, which lies between Deqen, and Zogang 左 貢 and Zayu 察 隅 in the Tibet Autonomous Region 西 藏 自 治 區 to the west.
Getting There and Away
The gateway to Feilai Si 飛 來 寺 in Deqen County 德 欽 縣 is Shangri La City 香 格 里 拉 市 or called Zhongdian 中 甸.
The bus trip is a memorable one and reaches the highest point at 4292 m above sea level. I would include this ride with others in a later video to showcase the scenic routes along the Three Parallel Rivers 三 江 併 流 in Yunnan Province 雲 南 省.
Kawagarbo 卡 瓦 格 博, the Sacred Mountain of Tibetan Buddhism
Kawagarbo, Khawa Karpo or Kawagebo, is also known as Meili Snowy Mountain 梅 里 雪 山, a small ridge of the extensive Hengduan Mountain Range 横 斷 山 脉, which runs north-south skirting the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau.
Peak at 6740 m, Kawagarbo is said to be second only to Mount Kailash or Kang Rinpoche 岡 仁 波 齊 峰 in the western Tibet Autonomous Region 西 藏 自 治 區, as the most Sacred Mountain of Tibetan Buddhism.
Summit at 6638 m, Mount Kailash is the venerated mountain of 4 religions, namely Bon 苯 教, Buddhism 佛 教, Hinduism 印 度 教, and Jainism 耆 那 教.
The impassable Kawagarbo divides the upper reaches of Nujiang 怒 江 or the Salween River 薩 爾 溫 江 in Burma 緬 甸 or Myanmar, and Lancang Jiang 瀾 滄 江 or the Mekong River 湄 公 河 in Vietnam.

Mingyong Glacier 明 永 冰 川 – the lowest Glacier in China
From the summit of Kawagarbo 卡 瓦 格 博 at 6740 m, the Glacier runs a 12 km course down to below 2000 m and is exposed to monsoon weather with unstable snow condition that makes climbing almost impossible.
An avalanche on 3 Jan 1991 claimed 17 life of a joint-expedition by the Japanese and Chinese at an altitude of 5100 m.
No one has succeeded climbing Kawagarbo.
Today, climbing is banned.
According to traditional belief, any mortal reaching the summit would anger God, who would withdraw the blessing and disasters would come.

Travel with us- to the mysterious Meili Snow mountain
11 Sherpa Gyanak Riwu Tsenga Nekorwa group Shangri la, Khawakarpo,
Visit Khawakarpo, Meili Mountain 8th July we flew 1.10 hrs from Chengdu to Shangrila, Yunnan Province. With 3 jeeps we drive towards Deqen to Fei Lai Si to see the view of Kawakarbo crossing over the pass 4292 m. We spent an hour but due heavy cloud we could see only little bit of Kawakarpo. We worship there and visit also the Feilai monastery founded by Juewu Namka Tashi. And spent the night at Deqin.
Feilaisi (Flying Temple) at Meili Snow Mountain, Shangrila, Yunnan
... Feilaisi offers one of the most astonishing views of Meili Snow Mountain, however weather was not on our side. It was too cloudy and we could not see any of the 13 peaks there.
Grad Trip to Yunnan - Meili Snow Mountain/梅里雪山
We stayed in Feilaisi (飞来寺)for two days hoping to see the golden snow mountain during sunrise but no luck cos we were there during the wrong season. The locals said the best season will be from Oct-Feb every year, lol sounds like same period for watching Northern lights.
But we were alr very lucky to see most of the mountain and catch abitttt of its peak during one of the days. Apparently, we were blessed with the best weather of the month and ppl who came before us can only see clouds, clouds and clouds. YEPPP so no complaintsssss!
