Kawartha Highlands P P Cherry Lake Canada Day weekend 2016
Hey, we're Dean & Shannon (Team Dawgpound) and we love back country camping in Ontario and we're avid geocachers that started caching in 2009. Kawartha Highlands is one of our favourite parks for back country camping because it's 4-5 hours away from home and there are alot of lakes and loops to paddle. So far we've done Wolf L, Crab L, Anstruther L, Rathbun L, North Rathbun L, Serpentine L, Anderson L, Rock L, Copper L, Long L, Loucks L, Compass L, Cherry L, Triangle L, plus a total of 6687m of portages.
All our gear (Tent, stoves, water filters, cookware, dishes, ect) is MSR brand and our canoe is a Nova Craft Royalex Light that we love!
Backcountry 2011 - Kawartha Highlands: Long Lake to Cox Lake Canoe Route
Looks great in 720P. Embarked on a trip to Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park (also known as Kawartha Highlands signature Site) in August 2011. This is a nice easy route that is suited for novice canoeists. A great trip to introduce family and friends to canoeing as it's not strenuous or too remote, yet still is nearby and natural. You can embark on a longer loop trip to Stoplog Lake following the first few lakes in this video.

Camping with kids in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park
We are so lucky to have such beautiful Canadian wilderness to enjoy. For this trip we explored a little deeper into Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park. Two portages and two paddles (a little over an hour) and we were at site 127 on Sucker Lake - an amazing island site.

Slippery Slope at Loon Call Lake in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park
I stopped off at Loon Call Lake in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park. I had hoped to get take some photos and video of ravens or any wildlife. Unfortunately, I didn't see much of anything. I did have a heck of time getting up the hill from the boat launch at Loon Call Lake just off Anstruther Lake Road. It only took me ten times to finally make it to the top of the hill.
Lessons learned:
1. Buy snow tires for next winter!
2. Keep a shovel in the trunk to clear a path.
3. Persistence often pays off.
Eels Creek - Canoe Day Trip in the Kawarthas
I take my dad on a canoe day trip down Eels Creek in the Kawarthas, Ontario Canada. We make a stop at High Falls on Eels Creek and visit Petroglyphs Provinicial park to see native rock carvings as well as meromictic McGinnis Lake. Although we did not camp, there are crown land camp sites along the route and at the falls itself.
