Kayaking Lake Manapouri, New Zealand (GoPro HD)
On December 19, 2011 we rented a tandem a kayak at Lake Manapouri in New Zealand from Fiordland Adventure ( The weather was perfect. It was sunny with no wind, and warm but not too hot. It also seemed like we had the lake to ourselves, as we only saw about two other boats the whole day, and two other kayakers. It was a lot of fun, and afterward we got some pizza in Te Anau.

-- About this video --
Yesterday, you saw us cruise in Milford Sound. Now today, see what it’s like to kayak in Milford Sound! It’s the more active and adventurous way to explore Milford Sound!
We head down to the Roscos Milford Kayaks base where we get kitted out with thermals and hats for the Morning Glory kayaking tour. It’s the early morning kayaking tour in Milford Sound. It’s also one of the more adventurous tours with a lot of paddling as we are going to be covering a lot of water today.
He hit the water in a double kayak and paddle toward our first sight, Sinbad Gully. We are told heaps of information about the geology and history of Milford Sound by our knowledgably Milford Sound kayaking guide.
After kayaking along the edge of Milford Sound and right underneath it’s mountains, we cross Milford Sound to aim for Stirling Falls. We even kayak under Stirling Falls only to be swept away by the force of the 151m waterfall. Next, we arrive at a seal colony where we get closer to the seas than even before in our kayaks.
The Morning Glory Tour with Rosco’s Milford Sound Kayaks usually takes kayakers out to the end of Milford Sound, but because the weather is looking bad, the tour is cut short and we are picked up by water taxi halfway through Milford Sound.
So what do you think of a kayak tour in Milford Sound. Is this the way you would see Milford Sound? LUK in the comments.

Perfect Day Kayaking The Milford Sound
Blue skies, forest greens, snow capped mountains...the visual delights seen this day in January 2014 while kayaking the Milford Sound were unforgettable. We used Roscos as our Kayaking Tour Operator and our tour was led by Adam on this perfect day. We booked the Stirling Sunriser which takes you out past Stirling Falls on their water taxi (about 17K) and you paddle back. We saw seals sunning and frolicking on the rocks, kayaked into Stirling Falls and had the power of the waterfall blow us out, and we made our very own sail out of paddles, ropes and teamwork! It was a truly memorable day and a highlight of our New Zealand road trip.
If you're looking to do something special on the Milford Sound, I highly recommend this tour and highly recommend Roscos.

-- About this video --
Today we are doing packrafting in Fiordland National Park! What is packrafting? Well, it’s exploring the wilderness with everything you need on your back including a raft or kayak. We are using blow-up kayaks to explore the Waiau River in Te Anau and Lake Manapouri before packing the rafts up in a backpack then hiking on the Kepler Track.
Packrafting is one of the awesome adventure activities in Te Anau, where we start our trip. We learn how to blow up our packrafts then hit the grade 2 Waiau River. Packrafting on the Waiau River is great for beginners to packrafting.
Once floated down the Waiau River we emerge on Lake Manapouri. At one side of the lake, we reach the shores and pack our rafts away. With our rafts on our backs, we hit the Kepler Track which is one of the Great Walks of New Zealand. Hiking the Kepler Track is part of the packrafting experience.
So what do you think of packrafting in New Zealand? It’s a great way to experience kayaking in Te Anau or kayaking in Fiordland, as well as being able to hike the Kepler Track all in one trip. Would you add packrafting to your New Zealand must-do list? LUK in the comments.
