New Zealand Self-drive Trip 2015, Day 8 (Franz Josef Glacier)
New Zealand south island self-drive road trip 2015, Franz Josef Glacier not too far from Fox Glacier situated at West Coast Glacier Country of NZ. It was a good weather that day for the valley walk to get to the closet point to Franz Josef Glacier, unfortunately the river in the valley was overflow and flooded, and blocked the walking path.
New Zealand's Glaciers
Recorded January 16, 2007.
The Franz Josef is a 12 kilometer long glacier located in Westland National Park on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. Together with the Fox Glacier 20 kilometers to the south, it is unique in the fact that it descends from the Southern Alps to less than 300 metres above sea level amidst the greenery and lushness of a temperate rainforest. It is also one of only three glaciers to come so close to a coastline. The area surrounding the two glaciers is designated a World Heritage Site.
This video begins at Franz Josef Glacier. Next there is a series of still images of my helicopter flight around the two glaciers. The video concludes as I walk to the face of Fox Glacier.

Walk to the ice face of Fox Glacier, New Zealand
A gentle 2 km walk up to Ice face of the Fox Glacier. The rugged splendour of the U shaped glacial Valley with markers and interpretations to help understand the past advances and retreats of the ice sheet.
20000 years ago the glacier terminated approximately 10 km out into the Tasman sea. 10000 years ago the valley was full of ice . The clash of two tectonic plates is evident by vertical rock strata in the valley.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written
language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding

- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through
audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio
while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using

SUMMARY
=======
The South Island (Māori: Te Waipounamu) is the larger of the two major islands of New Zealand in surface area; the other being the smaller but more populous North Island. It is bordered to the north by Cook Strait, to the west by the Tasman Sea, and to the south and east by the Pacific Ocean. The South Island covers 150,437 square kilometres (58,084 sq mi), making it the world's 12th-largest island. It has a temperate climate.
It has a 32 percent larger landmass than the North Island so is sometimes referred to as the mainland of New Zealand, especially by South Island residents, but only 23 percent of New Zealand's 4.9 million inhabitants live there. In the early stages of European (Pākehā) settlement of the country, the South Island had the majority of the European population and wealth due to the 1860s gold rushes. The North Island population overtook the South in the early 20th century, with 56 percent of the population living in the North in 1911, and the drift north of people and businesses continued throughout the century.
