Last weekend we went to NIKKO! We’ve been wanting to visit Nikko for a while now, and thought a weekend day-trip was perfect for some adventuring.

Discovering Nikko. Kegon Falls, Lake Chuzenji and Yumoto Onsen in early summer
Back of the nikko is called Oku-nikko area. In Oku-nikko area, there is Kegon Falls. I wonder lots of foreign people visit Kegon Falls, however, they do not visit Lake Chuzenji, Senjogahara and Yumoto Onsen. So, let me show about them. Especially I like Yumoto Onsen, means Nikko Yumoto Spa.
Best season for visiting Nikko are both late fall and early summer. This video is taken in early summer.

Kegon Falls (華厳滝 Kegon Taki?) is located at Lake Chūzenji (source of the Oshiri River) in Nikkō National Park near the city of Nikkō, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The falls were formed when the Daiya River was rerouted by lava flows. The main falls had a height of approximately 97 metres (318 ft) and about twelve smaller waterfalls are situated behind and to the sides of Kegon Falls, leaking through the many cracks between the mountain and the lava flows.
In the autumn, the traffic on the road from Nikko to Chūzenji can sometimes slow to a crawl as visitors come to see the fall colors.
In 1927, the Kegon Falls was recognized as one of the Eight Views which best showed Japan and its culture in the Shōwa period.It is also listed as one of the Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls, in a listing published by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment in 1990.
The Kegon Falls are infamous for suicides, especially among Japanese youth.

Kegon Waterfall Nikko - 1 of 3 most beautiful waterfall in Japan
The almost 100 meter tall Kegon Waterfall (華厳の滝, Kegon no taki) is the most famous of Nikko's many beautiful waterfalls. In fact, it is even ranked as one of Japan's three most beautiful falls. Kegon Waterfall is the only exit for the waters of Lake Chuzenji. It can be seen from a free observation platform that is easily accessible on foot, as well as from a paid platform at the base of the falls. The paid platform is accessed via a 100 meter deep elevator and offers more impressive views.

Kegon Falls, Nikko in 4K ???? 華厳滝●日光 ???? Japan As It Truly Is
Kegon Falls is one of Japan's most spectacular waterfalls and a highlight of Nikko. Come discover the Kegon Waterfall here.
Kegon Falls (華厳滝) is one of Japan's Top 3 waterfalls and offers some of the best scenery you'll see in Japan. The Kegon Waterfall is 97 m (318 ft) high and among the Toshogu Shrine and other sights in Nikko, Tochigi Prefecture, makes up a fantastic place to visit. Nikko is a couple hours north of Tokyo, but to reach the Kegon Falls in Okunikko it takes another hour's bus ride.
There are 2 decks to see the Kegon Waterfall. The upper one is free. The lower run requires an elevator ride to the bottom, and costs ¥570 yen.
Open daily.

8:00 to 5:00 (Mar-Apr)
7:30 to 6:00 (May-Sep)
7:30 to 5:00 (Oct)

Autumn is finally upon us and like pretty much everywhere in the world, autumn colors in Japan are something pretty amazing to see and enjoy. Better known as ‘koyo’ in Japanese, this phenomenon attract millions of visitors to parks and temples all across the country for this yearly natural celebration.
While we will cover autumn leaves later this month in different temples, we decided to start the season with the amazing forests, lake and waterfall surrounding Nikko, including Yumoto Onsen, Yudaki Waterfall, Lake Chuzenji, Mt Hangetsuyama in order and to finish with the magnificent Kegon Waterfall!
