Kehi-no-Matsubara (Kehi pine grove) is one of the best scenic spots in Japan, and is considered one of the three largest pine tree forests, along with Niji-no-Matsubara and Miho-no-Matsubara. The beautiful scenery is created by the contrast between the blue ocean, the blue pine trees, and the white, sandy beach. It is truly a masterpiece of natural beauty. The pine grove consists of 17,000 pine trees that are over 200 years old (both Japanese black and red species). It is a popular recreation spot for walking and jogging. In the summer, the area is full of sea-bathing tourists.

三保の松原、虹の松原と共に日本三大松原として知られ、国の名勝に指定されている。
『万葉集』や『日本書紀』にも詠まれている、古くから知られる敦賀の景勝地で、早朝 松の木、青い海と空、気流に乗って輪を描きながら上空へ舞い上がる鳶を眺めているとパワーが入った。

My first time to watch fireworks display in tsuruga.
This is a festival held in the fantastic, dream-like night at the scenic Kehi no Matsubara. Fireworks such as water fireworks and starmines adorn the night sky colorfully. The Toro Nagashi (biddign farewell to the spirits of ancestors with floated lanterns) is also held with the fireworks display and adorns the sea. The Toro Nagashi starts at 18:30.
I recommend this event to a must see fireworks when you visit japan.

Tsuruga Toro Nagashi + Fireworks とうろう流しと花火
Held during the Bon season in Aug., toro nagashi is candle-lit paper lanterns floated on the ocean as a Buddhist offering to the spirits of the deceased. Tsuruga holds its mass toro nagashi (6,000 lanterns) on its famous Kehi no Matsubara beach at 6:30 pm, and then shoots off fireworks. Whoever thought of combining toro nagashi and fireworks was a genius. They go very well together. Taken on Aug. 16, 2006 in Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, Japan. Photos:
