DYA717 #4 Kakunodate March 26, 2016
Kakunodate March 26, 2016 – Same-old same-old breakfast at da hotel so dis time I going spare you guys da picture. Good NATTO! So like I said, I going continue my BURA-BURA of Morioka so I went catch da train from Kakunodate to Morioka. I took some pictures around the station. It had nice photos of how Kakunodate might look a few weeks from now when the cherry blossoms.
In Morioka I found out they have a loop bus which they call the DEN-DEN MUSHI which cost 300-yen for all day or 100-yen each stop you get off. I decided to walk da bus route. Distance wise I walked more than the route because I deviated whenever I saw something interesting or whenever I got lost! Kekekekeke : )) Whatevahs, I saved 300-yen, and got plenty health benefits from da walk but I lost out in time and some of the wear-&-tear on da soles of my precious walking shoes! Walking da bus route was boring as you can see from the initial pictures I took.
Morioka is a nice modern city with wide streets in the major part of town. Lots of signage in Japanese and English so visitors can easily get around in the business district where the DEN-DEN MUSHI bus goes. They have many plaques with the map of the area so it is hard to get lost! Well, except, for guys who go BURA-BURA! Kekekeke : )) It is actually not too interesting walking da DEN-DEN MUSHI bus route. My video shows what I saw in da sequence I saw da sights dat I saw! Dig?
I saw da Cherry tree splitting da boulder. It is like one 400-year old tree which grew ontop one boulder and da roots went split ‘um. It resides on some government property. My picture shows one bare tree sitting on top of one boulder but all da touristy pictures show the tree during cherry blossom time so it looks really nice! Sorry, mine wasn’t so nice! Whatevahs, it is a national treasure of some sort!
So den I kept walking and da first place I got lost, er, I mean I explored, I ended up at one shrine. Good thing too because nature called and I had to get to one TO-I-LE really quick like! Whew, made it in time! It was up on a hill and I got to see the nice view of the city and got re-oriented.
After walking a bit, I finally reached the old building which has the same looks as the Tokyo Train station (same folks designed them). It was the former site of the Bank of Morioka or something li’ dat! Nearby was a shopping arcade which I walked through and found a restaurant. Took a break with a miso katsu don (da small 60g one) and one draft beer. While I was eating, Rimi Natsukawa was singing “HANA” (Okinawan ditty). I wanted to ask da waitress how come RIMI singing but my limited Japanese prevented me from embarrassing myself by asking! Then I walked over a block and ran into the castle ruins park. Now, dis is one very good castle ruin park because a lot of da castle walls are still there and some moats from yester year exist! Den I went go HE-LE on toward da train station and ran into Odori street which is a very elegant shopping street. Nature called again so I ducked into the GASTO House restaurant! Used their facilities and then I decided to take a break from my BURA-BURA and ordered a red wine. They had a special 106-yen (96-cents US) for a glass of Spanish wine or 430-yen ($3.88-US) for a decanter! What a deal! Da wine wasn’t a full-bodied one, whatevah dat means but it tasted OK.
I went to da train station, got my seat assignment with my railpass, bought one eki-ben and went up to the boarding track. Da train came in so I went to watch the de-coupling. Took a while – I was waiting for someone to throw a bucket of water so it will de-couple quicker! Never happened! When da train de-coupled, it immediately went onwards! AU-WE! It left me behind! Oh well, so I went downstairs and got me assigned a seat on da next train, an hour’s wait! Well, not too shabby because they had a café in da waiting area which had red wine so I had one glass! Good things happen everyday! When da next train train came in, I didn’t watch da de-coupling but went immediately to my seat and got back to my hotel in Kakunodate in fine shape and spirits!
