Chikubushima and Nagahama - Shiga, Japan 2.1 - 6.13.16
This is my first video from my second trip to Shiga, Japan.
Some of my friends and I went to the Northeast side of Lake Biwa to visit Chikubu island (Chikubushima) and the City of Nagahama. Chikubushima is the second largest island in Lake Biwa and is home to many historical temples (the oldest is about 1,300 years old).
After we rode the Biwako-Kisen boat back to Nagahama, we visited the Kurokabe glass factory in Kurokabe square and got to create our own designs to sandblast onto glass. We also visited the Kaiyodo figure museum.

The 65th Nagahama Bonsai Exhibition of Japanese Plum Trees
One of the largest bonsai exhibition of Japanese plum in Japan, “Nagahama Bonsai Exhibition of Japanese Plum Trees” is held from every January to March in Nagahama City Shiga Prefecture. The venue for the exhibition is the historic building, “Keiunkan”. It is overwhelming to see that there are the 3 meters high plum bonsai tree and the 300 years old one with pretty blossoms exhibited. We would like to show you the video of “the 65th Nagahama Bonsai Exhibition of Japanese Plum Trees” which was held last year (2016).

A Half Day Winter Tour in Central Nagahama (长滨市内半天远行)
The main event of this tour is to visit Keiunkan to appreciate Nagahama Bonsai (Dwarf Potted Trees of Ume Apricot) Exhibition, which is renowned for its No.1 scale and the longest history. You can enjoy exquisite fragrance of the small but old trees on display at the inside of that majestical guest house which was buit in 1887.

Built in 1887, this old building was used as a guesthouse of the Emperor Meiji. This furisode-clad lady wearing a wig see this building.

Furisode--san means the girl wearing a furisode (the most formal style of kimono worn by unmarried women in Japan). They are professional kimono dressers; they look like Maikos (appretice Geishas), because their make-up is the same and they are hired to entertain guests during dinners or parties. They are not Maikos, though: because they don't live in an okiya (the lodging house where maikos and geishas usually live).
