Torch Troupes (火把剧团, Huo Ba Ju Tuan) - Trailer

In this vivid portrait of China's musical heritage, Sichuan Opera performers strive to keep a centuries-old art form alive.
After thriving for 300 years, the Sichuan Opera is endangered. Having survived the Cultural Revolution, state-sponsored opera troupes now face extinction in the era of private enterprise. Opera master Li Baoting began his career at eight, but now performs pop songs with showgirls in cheap bars. His colleague Wang Bin performs in traveling tents, trying to resist the massive cultural changes threatening to wipe out this art form.
In Torch Troupes, acclaimed filmmaker Xu Xin (Karamay) captures the painstaking preparations of Sichuan Opera performers and bears witness to the difficulties they face: an aging audience, the demolition of traditional teahouse venues, and career pressures to adopt modern dance or karaoke, or abandon the stage altogether. Torch Troupes offers an eye-opening overview of popular performance culture in contemporary China, and a poignant reflection of the struggle to preserve a cultural heritage in the face of widespread social transformation.
Rescue Chinese Children from Red Army Schools

In the wake of Chongqing's Red Song movement and CCP's
Organization Department's Follow the Red March,
Sichuan Province recently constructed 4 Red Army
primary schools.
Scholars believe that the CCP poisons its students with lies,
which is a disaster for China's education.
Some netizens called for saving these poor children!
CCP's mouthpiece Xinhua News Agency reported on Dec. 5
that Yan'an Spirit Research Association donated 1 million to
Sichuan Province for the construction of 4 Red Army schools.
Sichuan will have the most of such schools
amongst China's provinces.
Red Army schools feature CCP's Red Education, and carry
out various activities based on local red resources.
At a donation ceremony, students wore uniforms, waved flags,
and sang red songs, whilst mimicking scenes of the Cultural Revolution.
Internet writer Jing Chu pointed out that the so-called Red Army
was in fact a force controlled by the Soviet Union in Republic China.
Whilst the Chinese army was fighting the Japanese, the
CCP expanded itself and occupied cities and lands elsewhere.
Red Army's Long March was actually a fleeing
from the Nationalist Army.
During the fleeing, the CCP published a declaration
to fight the Japanese.
When the Japanese army came from the east,
CCP yet again ran away to the northwest.
Red Army's anti-Japanese story is a complete lie,
which is also the so-called Red Army Spirit.
Fun Wenguang, former professor of Shandong University said,
It is Chinese people's tragedy that CCP brainwashes its students with such Red Spirit---a distortion of history.
[CCP] just wants to influence the young---to inculcate them
with red lies so that in the future they will inherit the red campaign.
This is not only a waste of time for the students, but also
poisons them with such ideas as class struggle and hatred.
Freelance Li Xin'ai wrote in Deutsche Welle that China's
public schools have not provided free education for children.
They even charge high fees for education away from
their hometown.
Meanwhile, CCP infiltrates Communist Party and Youth League
into schools. Even private schools are not exempt.
The article pointed out that China's poor public education suffers
not form insufficient funding but from government negligence.
CCP offers 1.5 billion to buy in African countries and building
hope schools there, yet refuses to invest in domestic education.
Li Xin'ai questioned, if CCP really is concerned over the
welfare of its children, they should 'not have prioritized the leaders over the children at the Karamay fire 17 years ago,
should not have sacrificed tens of thousands of students for
problem school buildings in Wenchuan earthquake three years ago,
and should not have deprived migrant workers'
children of their education ...
The article also said that China's education can not be saved
by the so-called Red Army School.
Without a solution to the institutional problems,
China's education has no future.

Flying Across The Desert: Day 11
Enter The Taklamakan Desert
The Tarim Highway crosses the Taklamakan Desert linking the cities Luntai and Minfeng on the northern and southern edges of the Tarim basin. The total length of the highway is 552km; approximately 446km of it cross uninhabited areas covered by shifting sand dunes. Today will be the first time anyone has attempted to rollerblade across it. As if on cue, the Rollerboys roll straight into a photo opportunity.

Hotan Musicians
I came across a couple of musicians playing for some sort of ceremony in Hetian (Hotan), Xinjiang province, China. I never did find out what for. A rather simple duo, one played the dulcimer (tsymbaly in Ukrainian) and the other played a pair of bongo-like drums with sticks.
