Mt. Kelimutu National Park is the smallest among six national parks in the stretch between Bali and the Nusatenggara islands. Its size obviously does not matter much when it offers one of the most spectacular wonders that nature has to offer. There are three lakes on the mountain sharing the same name, Kelimutu, meaning ‘the boiling lake’. Each has its own colors and a local name. But all are believed to be the resting place of departed souls.

Kelimutu Volcano - Flores, Indonesia
Kelimutu is a volcano in central Flores island in Indonesia. The volcano is around 50 km to the east of the town of Ende, Indonesia.The mountain has three volcanic crater lakes that differ in colour.
I have enjoyed this trip a lot, especially for doing this during the sunrise.

Mitosnya, Burung Garugiwa dipercaya hanya muncul pada saat tertentu saja. Misalnya pada saat menjelang Upacara Pati Ka Du'a Bapu Ata Mata. Kicaunya yang nyaring terdengar sedari pagi, tepat sehari sebelum upacara adat itu dilaksanakan.

An even early wake up at 4am this morning I make my way to Mt Kelimutu!! ????????
The 3 coloured lakes are a natural occurring phenomenon as they are always changing colours and the local people believe it is the resting place for departed souls!! I then spend the rest of the morning touring through he little village of Moni! If you want to experience Indonesia away from the mass tourists then Flores Island is the place to be!
Another short bus ride to Ende which is where I'll camp for the night for my flight tomorrow back to Bali! ???? ????

FLORES ROAD TRIP DAY 2 - Tri-colourd Lakes at Mount Kelimutu | INDONESIA
This was the second day of our Flores road trip. We woke up early in our homestay in the small town called Moni. From here we were driven up towards the start point of the small hike up to the summit of Mount Kelimutu.
At the summit of Kelimutu is where we would watch the sunrise over the Tri-coloured lakes. The views were amazing and the sunrise was one of the best we had ever seen!
After sunrise we were driven by our driven to see some hot springs and rice fields. The hot spring was barely more than a stream!
Next began our 8 hour drive to the small town of Bajawa. On the way we stopped off at a spectacular blue stone beach and at a small road side restaurant for some fresh fish whilst looking out onto a an ocean view.

Leaving at 2am we depart from Maumere and make our way to Mt. Kelimutu national park to capture the sunrise over these stunning volcanic crater lakes on the island of Flores Indonesia.
After capturing sunrise we then travel across the island to Koka beach.

What a wonderful wonderful island Flores is! Located in East Nusa Tenngara INDONESIA - The cape of flowers is what the portuguese named this island.
The land of komodo dragons, wooden villages, manta rays & incredible scuba diving.
Flores is going to be the next big thing in Indonesia! The people here are amazingly friendly, children want to wave and shout at you all the time and there are amazing rice terraces everywhere such as the spiderweb rice fields of cancar, Linko.
On this motorbike adventure i started in Labuan Bajo and rented a motorbike to go to Kelimutu Multicoloured volcano lake. The journey there and back was equally as impressive as the lakes themselves.
I stopped at the towns of Ruteng, Bajawa and Ende. And slept at Moni which is on the base of kelimutu.
On the way back i visited Bena traditional village and also Wae Rebo which is incredibly difficult to drive to. The roads are so bad.

Geopark Indonesia Episode Kelimutu Di Kota Raja Lahir Pancasila
Walau belum menjadi kawasan geopark nasional, kabupaten ende, nusa tenggara timur memiliki potensi untuk menjadi sebuah taman bumi.
Ende menyimpan ketiga unsur yang menjadi syarat sebuah geopark, yakni geodiversity (keanekaragaman geologi), biodiversity (keanekaragaman hayati), serta culture diversity (keanekaragaman budaya).
Contoh ragam geologi yang dimiliki ende adalah gunung meja, yang juga menjadi lokasi wisata kekinian.Bentuk gunung yang unik menyerupai meja, ditambah keindahan alamnya, menjadikan gunung meja kerap menjadi salah satu objek swafoto para wisatawan.
Ende juga memiliki warisan budaya serta adat istiadat yang unik, dan bahkan membantu perekonomian warga setempat.
Seperti adanya pasar tradisional detusoko. Di pasar detusoko, tersedia beragam barang dagangan, mulai dari sembako, hingga kain tenun khas ende. Pasar detusoko hanya ada setiap hari rabu dan sabtu. Para pembeli berasal dari desa lain, yang jaraknya berjauhan. Para pembeli ini menggunakan angkutan truk yang disebut bus kayu. Walau sederhana, namun bus kayu turut membantu bergulirnya roda perekonomian masyarakat.
Selain pasar tradisional, pewaris budaya lainnya adalah kampung adat wologai. Kampung adat wologai sudah berusia ratusan tahun.
Di sini, wisatawan dapat melihat kehidupan asli masyarakat wologai, dengan rumah adat sao ria, pakaian adat ende lio, bahkan hasil kerajinan unik yang dijual untuk meningkatkan perekonomian.
Tak hanya memiliki alam yang indah serta budaya yang unik, ende terkenal sebagai kota pancasila. Sebuah wilayah yang menyimpan sejarah penting indonesia.
Di kota inilah, presiden ri pertama, soekarno diasingkan.
Di ende, terdapat sebuah rumah pengasingan bung karno, yang kini telah menjadi bangunan cagar budaya. Di rumah pengasingan ini, bung karno tercetus ide 5 butir pancasila sebagai dasar negara indonesia.
Adanya bukti sejarah indonesia ini pula yang turut meningkatkan sektor pariwisata kabupaten ende, ntt.
Keanekaragaman hayati di kabupaten ende juga tak kalah menarik.
Salah satu produk alam yang juga menjadi makanan pokok masyarakat ende adalah ubi kayu. Ubi kayu kemudian diubah menjadi kuliner khas ende yaitu uwiai punga.

We stayed the night in Moni and got up around 4:00 am and watch the sunrise over the tri-coloured lakes! Definitely worth it.
Kelimutu National Park should be done before sunrise to see the beauty of sun enchanting us with its magic show changing of colors.

The volcano lakes are still active. The the volcano lakes was smoking . The sulfuric smoke was very strong better not to stay close to the lake.
Kelimutu is a volcano, close to the small town of Moni in central Flores island in Indonesia. The volcano is around 50 km to the east of Ende, Indonesia, the capital of Ende regency in East Nusa Tenggara province.The mountain has three volcanic crater lakes that differ in color.
The science of the Kelimutu lakes is relatively well known[2]. Lake colors periodically change due to adjustments in the oxidation-reduction status of the fluid of each lake, and also considering the abundance of different major elements, such as iron and manganese. Oxidation-reduction status depends on the balance of volcanic gas input and rainfall rate[3], and is thought to be mediated by the groundwater system in the volcano itself[4]. The colors in the lakes change independently from each other, as each has its own unique connectivity to the underlying volcano's activity. Between January and November 2016, the colors of the craters changed six times.[5] Although it is widely believed that the changes are unpredictable, it is more accurate to say that the lack of any regular monitoring of the volcanic system precludes scientists from having the data necessary to drive widely available predictive models.
